2011 White House correspondents dinner when Obama did like 12 minutes dunking on Trump. That’s where this started.
Hard to say what happens if he loses in 2016. He was considered kind of a joke going into it, so I guess it depends on the nature of the loss. If it was as surprisingly close as his win was, then maybe they run it back in 2020 and if COVID happens exactly as it did, he probably wins. If he gets wafflecrushed in 2016, then the GOP probably tells him to gtfo and stop embarrassing them.
I remember them trying to do this, though, and he just curb stomped everyone in the primary. To me it looks like the republican party and primary is far more structured for a populist cult candidate like him than the democrat power/primary structure is.
This is gonna sound batshit but probably a way forward is some centrist dem candidate shitlib who could form a personality cult running as blatantly republican and unseating this insanity from within - I cannot think of a single person who could do that, although it seems a few dems have sorta tried already. Not newsom. he is a slimeball. Someone like fetterman would be good but he seems to have lost his mind. I personally believe deep down most people want essentially the same things but get distracted by tribalism, prejudice, and shiny things.
I dont know how many PoC people here know but everyone I know is deeply terrified and that fear was preyed upon by this kamala campaign, and it rankles me that people have the gall to turn around and blame them for not showing up to vote for a cop. Who would not be afraid? a major campaign message was that blacks should be exterminated or deported because they eat pets. This party failed them and they should never, ever go back because they’ve been lied to. That is the future of whatever happens next to me. Sorry for waxing so political.
power is a drug, and being from appalachia, he’s already predisposed to being an addict. my bet would be on him being the most evil version of himself.
I feel like one big winner yesterday was Hillary.
Everyone was blaming her for running a shit campaign and saying she was unlikeable. Just a terrible candidate. On the other hand, Kamala apparently did everything right and was very likeable. Yet Clinton did much better than Harris and this is despite everyone knowing exactly what the fuck they were getting with Orange Man.
This loss makes Hillary’s loss look very different. Maybe the problem wasn’t her, it was just sexism. And Kamala did worse because of sexism plus racism.
Trump is viewed a lot more favorably now compared to 2016. Not sure people are realizing how much this has changed. I just checked the RCP average for 2016 and Trump was at -21. This year he was at -7.
Also, the environment this election is considerably worse for democrats with inflation.
This shouldn’t change opinions about Hillary being a bad candidate imo.
It’s a good question. I think this cycle, racism/sexism were the icing on the cake and made this one a slaughter instead of a squeaker, but the negative impression of the economy (earned or not) and knee-jerk instinct to toss out the ruling party as a result was the big thing that sank Kamala.
IIRC the economy was humming along well enough during Obama’s 2nd term, but a lot of people’s brains had been broken about us having the nerve to elect a black president not once but twice. So you have that, plus sexism, plus the general air of shadiness around Hillary (again, earned or not) that made buttery males stick.
Possible for sure but even his worst is better than Trump.
Onion
Hard to fight that logic.
This is so weird I have a hard time believing it’s not staged.
some real brainboxes down there. i think the constant high heat actually fries people’s brains. i think that’s what’s happening. not voting stein because she’s antivax but so is trump and rfk jr. she thinks donald trump is straightforward and does not lie, and she likes palestine and hears trump say he’ll destroy palestine and she prefers that guaranteed promise over the chance that kamala is possibly being duplicitous. just by the numbers if you believe those sets of facts to be true you should still vote for the chance that kamala happens to be telling the truth on this particular issue. she’s voting trump and also leaving the country so fuck off too i guess
Disenfranchise all men and there will be zero elected republicans in the whole country.
I’d be fine with all white men.
I’m okay with just allowing fewer white men into the country.
Ive thought this from the very beginning. Its also a form of gaslighting cause if somebody dares to point out that we completely fucked up the nomination process and ended up with a candidate that very few people wanted then you can just accuse that person of being bad vibes and not have to address the monumental fuck-up
