2024 Election POST MORTEM

When does the Latino Elegy drop?

I’ve read other viable explanations for this, there are a lot of things that correlate in similar time frames that don’t seem related to each other. That is a pretty popular one.

I have a hypothesis that would explain a lot of the last 4 years - to me it seems like people are getting actually stupider. Like, it is very clear to me as someone who is terminally online and occasionally forced to interact with the outside world. I first started noticing it from a few friends that got a little derpier in ways I couldnt explain, and then a broader trend I noticed online. I can’t really explain it very well, it’s like people are completely unable to hold 2 thoughts in their head at the same time, comprehend basic sentences of more than 100 characters, and seem completely unable to do make basic logical connections anymore like a=b=c, to a degree I never noticed in my life up until about mid ‘22 and getting worse.

I attributed it to covid secondary and tertiary effects - education was severely disrupted, that explains a lot of the reading issue but only among young people. social media brainrot, sure. again, mostly only young people. however, I read some interesting studies about long covid recently, and one was saying they had observed a 3-7 iq point score difference in patients who had been tracked since early in the pandemic and had contracted covid, with more severe illness correlating with higher cognitive decline. Severely ill/hospitalized patients experienced even worse decline.

~half a standard deviation in iq doesnt sound like a lot, but I think it would have a very significant and profound effect across society that explains a lot of what I think I’ve observed. it makes me very glad Ive been militant about getting vaccinated.

This the same dude that went to the mat to keep the corpse of Biden in the race because Biden vastly exceeded his expectations in advancing the progressive agenda?

Have stayed off twitter for the most part today, but have checked in vriefta couple times. LOTS of Dem conspiracy theorists, talking about millions upon millions of votes not being counted, shit like that. Looking like Republicans from four years ago.

I just want to say I hope everyone here and their families are ok going forward. It feels like it is going to get very bad and I know I have the luxury of not having to be in the middle of what is coming.

As I posted earlier, I think this election has exposed something deeply broken in America culture. Trump didn’t fluke his way like he did in 2016. People wanted his politics. Now I worry how easily it is going to be for him and his compatriots to enact the most egregious examples of their wish list. Who is going to resist? What are the guardrails? I can’t think of any.

I hope I am wrong.

NY 14 AOC R
2020 71.6 27.4
2022 70.6 27.3
2024 68.9 31.1

That’s a 7 pt swing

Queens county
2024 68 32
2020 72 27

9 pt swing

Bronx
2024 72 27
2020 83 16

14 pt swing

Her district straddles these two counties.
So has she lost votes? yes
Did she lose as many votes as Harris lost? Maybe/maybe not (it’s not an exactly like for like though with county and district data).

Finally a sign that Dems are getting on board with modern political messaging.

Even I got the vaxx, even though almost all in my “inner circle” are anti-vaxx.

I know you are kidding but this is sooooooooooo bad. Everything points to this be a massive turnout totally legit election. Voter suppression and corruption were non issues.

If the left starts playing MAGA we really are totally and completely fucked.

People won’t care what he does as long as it doesn’t personally affect them.

But one thing about Trump that I worry about is how alarmingly inept he is at handling catastrophic events. He’s not even capable of putting the right people in the right position for your most basic of problems. He had Betsy DeVos in charge of Education, Rick Perry in charge of nuclear energy, etc. Say we have another 3 Mile Island incident. WTF is Rick Perry going to do? God forbid the Cascadia Fault ruptures or if Los Angeles has a 9.0 earthquake.

It wasn’t massive turnout, though. That’s the thing.

Trump is going to get about the same number of votes he did in 2020. Dems just didn’t show up.

2020 was record turnout.

Anyway, its not suppression or corruption that won it. It was alignment with what the people wanted.

We are going to yearn for the likes of Davos.

This time is will be 100% incompetent and corrupt loyalists only.

If you want to see the future do some reading on Poland in the last decade after their right wing party won it all. It’s nightmare fuel.

I am indeed joking that it’s good but then again my idea of what is “good” and not in a political strategy sense has basically been obliterated in the last 24 hours. But I don’t think the left will ever have 10% the amount of conspiracy BS as the right.

The scary thing here is that conspiracy theories on the right are probably about to get worse. When Trump is out of power, the conspiracies just serve to stoke hatred of Dems and authority (like all the FEMA BS).

But when Trump is in power, conspiracy theories have a much more important role: explaining away any failures and setbacks. Trump 1.0 was the origin of QAnon and 5G/the complete suite of Covid conspiracy theories. Who knows what crazy shit they’re about to come up with.

Voter suppression is real, continue to ignore it at your own peril

Georgia had record turnout in terms of raw vote. Not sure about %.

Agree completely. Most people’s world view doesn’t extend any farther than the end of their street. The price of milk and eggs is up. Must be Biden’s fault. Let’s elect Trump again. They can’t remember what he did wrong, but remember gas was less than $2 per gallon at a time when everyone was cowering in their houses. And he indiscriminately passed out free money when everybody lost their jobs or business slowed to a crawl. Lots of level one thinkers out there. But even those who kept their jobs got the handouts too.

Will it work in reverse when shit hits the fan and Trump’s only answer is to whine. Or does he do something really nuts in retaliation for something real or exaggerated? 2028, if we survive til then, will be interesting. Do Dems find someone with a personality and our own cult following? Do Republicans succeed in rigging election even though many will have legit huge grievances against them by then? Does another charismatic Trump-like character emerge, or is the Republican race (if there is one) filled with Trump wannabes, leaving a huge lane for a RINO with a persona? We got nothing but time to see what happens.
