Both whistles came on third down. Both were the first defensive holding penalties called all game. And, of course, both calls led to go-ahead scores from the benefactor team, leading them to Super Bowl glory.
Referring to last years Super Bowl and this years.
Pretty easy to avoid being in that position at all if your coaches are in your ear telling you that a holding penalty is much much worse than giving up a TD.
Also with 6 minutes left, if the Chiefs get the ball at the 32, they wouldn’t be able to run the clock out. If they get the ball at their own 20 they might.
If Sirianni goes for it there and makes it, it would already be mostly forgotten, whether they win or lose.
If Sirianni goes for it there and misses, and loses the game, it would be talked about for years.
In 2021 Staley went for it on his own side a few times, made it, forgotten. Then he ran bad in some nationally televised games and the pundit-o-sphere gorged on him for weeks. This year he completely turtled up. I bet the owner told him to knock it off.
Normies are not equipped to handle run bad in correctly aggressive spots.
Anyone watch the XFL? I don’t, but I see they added a three point conversion from the ten yard line on a touchdown. Also supposed to be a different instant replay vibe.
Edit: apparently the replay system is dean blandino in a box deciding all the plays that are contested, not sure, doesn’t sound great.
My initial impression is I kind of like that rule change. Does kind of feel weird that close game situations are swung huge on the getting a good bounce on an onside kick. Having your offense try for 15 yards in one play does kind of feel more natural.
4th and 15 seems like it would be much easier than even the old onside kick conversions. you would see some crazy comebacks if that was put into the nfl, like coming back from 21 points in the last 5 minutes is not out of the question.
