2023 LC Thread - It was predetermined that I would change the thread title (Part 1)

I get annoyed by menus with a section labeled “handhelds”.

It is crazy. I remember my grandfather died from a heart attack around 60 years old in the 70s. Back then it was like “heart attack? See you later”. It’s amazing what can happen.

My friend has a heart attack about six months ago, drove himself to hospital in middle of night, and he was out of the hospital the next day. (Why didn’t he take an ambulance? Lol America people are more afraid of medical debt than medical death).

Hope you dad gets well soon.

That can still happen now. They vary in severity. You can have that or the kind your friend had.

I agree this is a very clunky sentence:

with the big issues being:

and

but I’m not sure if I could come up with a better structure.

Also, never beating this one:

Yeah that first tweet is basically me trying to wrangle every bit of expository text in the book I’m writing. Sure wish someone would sort out out the puzzle and post the correct answer for me!

Ah, so the secret ingredient is extra slavery.

Actor Jeremy Renner remains in critical condition after being run over by his own 14k lb snowplow.

I think this is a very clean sentence, but the problem is that it hides the new information, which is the issue that the original headline was trying to avoid. We already know that Jeremy Renner is in critical condition from some kind of snow plow-related accident, but the new information is more details about that accident - that the snow plow was 14,000 pounds and he used it to tow his car.

Actor Jeremy Renner remains in critical condition after being run over by 14k lb snowplow while hamfistedly using it tow his own car.

Jeremy Renner, the actor who was run over by a snow plow weighing more than 14,000 pounds, remained in critical but stable condition on Tuesday. He was using the plow to tow his car on a snowed-in road near his home in Reno, Nevada, authorities said.

Jeremy Lee Renner, the actor gnome who improbably looks like exactly every high school bully ever or at least he did before this silly accident—yes you definitely know the guy I’m talking about, he’s buckeye the blowflex guy got a big toe face the guy who when marvel murdered culture that of all the people who fell ass backwards into an ocean of money he seemed like the luckiest to be included, at least until his fall progressed to the point where he found himself directly in the path of a enchanted snowplow that somehow weighs more than an african elephant, is in critical condition which perhaps sounds critical but the point is the beloved halfling chippendale aka the tower of terror is not getting any worse on a Tuesday.

I dont know.

I used to really enjoy shitty Starbucks coffee and the like.

Then I went on a coffee tasting course.

My enjoyment of coffee went way down for at least 4 or 5 years. It’s taken this forums ultra hipster coffee thread and investing nearly 2000 bucks to get to the point where I regularly enjoy coffee as much or more than I used to, in my blissful ignorance.

Think this is a slam dunk for Porter.

Wouldn’t she face a ton of resistance from establishment Dems? She comes across as too progressive.

Establishment dems in California? She’s very well positioned as a dem in CA. Schiff could be a strong competitor, maybe a couple of other people, but Porter is very well liked among California dems.

Schiff (and many other people) could beat Padilla next cycle.

I’d think Porter will give Feinstein a deadline of when she plans to announce.

I would assume that the national eDem machine would get to work trying to get a centrist Senator from California elected.

Na, don’t think that’s how this will work at all. National dems (Schumer?) won’t mess with the primary. And as the article notes Porter has $7M in the bank and raised 22M last cycle.
