2023 LC Thread - It was predetermined that I would change the thread title (Part 1)

I think the big problem will be flooding, at least in the Vegas/desert areas.

The chuds are out in full force this morning because Alex Jones posted something to his website saying that the Fed intends to issue lockdowns over covid in September.

Our country is fucking hopeless.

There are probably people who should be preparing for this storm, but Iā€™m at a Costco in Glendale and the crowd is 10x usual, which is honestly silly. Itā€™s going to rain here.

Costco is kill-or-be-killed mode in normal times. I canā€™t imagine right now.

Flood risk from #Hilary in SE California deserts is genuinely alarming. Widespread & possibly destructive flash flooding is possible. This has high potential to be a historic flood event in this region. See attached screenshot of

I have a drag racing appointment tomorrow at the 6th street viaduct. Sounds like it might be a good idea to cancel, but my honor is kinda on the line here.

In all honesty though, LA sounds like the very worst place to have a hurricane - no soil, endless highways and parking, even the waterways are lined in concrete, a huge homelessness population. Sounds like a potential horrorshow. Really hoping this thing isnā€™t too bad.

Unless it weakens considerably in the next 24 hours this will be really bad

Historically these hurricanes hit further down the Baja Peninsula every few years, where theyā€™re known as chubascos. They rearrange beaches, wash houses and roads and way and generally fuck shit up.

no, it wonā€™t be a hurricane anymore when it gets to us. But it will probably still have tropical storm level winds, which is 39-74 mph. So basically a strong Santa Ana, which still requires prep.

The rain will be historic, and thatā€™s more what Iā€™m worried about. My area is predicted to get 3-5 inches, which is like, 9 monthsā€™ worth of rain in a day or two. The issue is the infrastructure here is just not designed for this much rain this fast. The flooding east of me is probably going to be terrible.

I was just down in the SDSU area, and the winds were already starting to pick up.

Yes, basically everywhere. The low lying areas on the coast will probably flood too, at least the river basins/canyons. The homeless advocacy groups are out in full force trying to get people to move out of these places before it hits. There are areas of SD that flood every time we get even a mid-level storm.

Exactly, Southern California was NOT designed for flooding in any way. Thereā€™s no drainage on streets, the closer you get to the coast, the higher concentration of sand/rock to soil, and the eastern deserts are just hard pack and canā€™t absorb water at the rate necessary to mitigate the amount of rain that is going to fall in a short period of time.

When it levels LA but leaves Disneyland untouched the CT shit will really hit the fan.

Are there still people in LV living in storm tunnels?

Yes

Hereā€™s hoping I make it in under the wire (2:50pm).

A song for your playlist as you arrive. Very fitting given the artist.
