2023 LC Thread - It was predetermined that I would change the thread title (Part 1)

Andrew Yang was going to save us all, and we criticized him for his poor IDPOL instincts. The irony.

It’s cool that we make poor and struggling people jump through a full time job’s worth of hoops to get help, but if you just want to go mow down 50 people in 45 seconds you can basically just go to the story and buy a gun.

Jfc its like those Pizza Time Pizza horor videos.

My neighbor died. She was like 95 and had lived in her house for 60 years. Anyway, her son is now selling it. I’m thinking of putting up some pride / BLM flags/signs to dissuade bigots from moving in next door. I haven’t put anything like that up before because we’re on a tiny dead-end, the only people who’d see it are my three neighbors.

Dick move or nah? The seller/son is definitely on the other end of the political spectrum.

What side was the neighbor on?

Also, do it

The first time I met her she made a racist remark against Armenians inside of five minutes (my city is very heavily Armenian, she was super-psyched that we are not).

EDIT: I ordered one of those “In This House We Believe” signs. I’m not even sure where I’d put a flag.

Apparently a heart attack. (Maybe just rumors, not clear atm.)

Idk, his life expectancy is longer if he stays in power?

She could face up to 10 years in jail.

She could also face the cancellation of her visa and removal from Australia, pending the outcome of the court proceedings.

Airline passengers on domestic flights in the US can travel with firearms in a checked bag when they are unloaded and locked in a hard-sided case. Travellers must also tell airline representatives that they intend to travel with weapons and / or grenades during check-in.

But in 2022, record number of firearms was confiscated from US airport passengers. A total of 6,301 guns were taken at checkpoints as of mid-December, the transportation Security Administration (TSA) said.

By contrast, Australia has some of the most comprehensive firearm laws in the world. They were enacted after 35 people were killed in 1996 by a gunman in Tasmania.

In the wake of the attack, all automatic and semi-automatic weapons were outlawed, and some 600,000 weapons were surrendered as part of a mandatory government buyback scheme.

It always annoys me that Manila gets the top spot, and whenever its mentioned it’s never in context.

It’s purely a matter of definitions and boundaries.

The “Manila” that everyone think of is actually 12 cities. It’s called greater Manila, or Manila Capital Region. I definitely lived in Manila and visited “Manila City” a dozen times. It’s the old business district, with a bunch of high rises and dense housing. It has a population of about 1.7 million, vs the whole of Manila with 12 million plus.

It’s like if Manhattan or another central borough was “New York City” and everyone said New York was the most populous city on earth. It’s stupid.

The economist did a whole article on this years ago. Its basically impossible to agree on a consistent definition of city for these purposes. "Biggest x, richest y, most populous z, etc.

My favorite is “Knock knock, who’s there? Pizza magic!” and the poor delivery guy has never seen a doorway in his life. “What the fuck is this, do I stand in the middle? Am I inside or outside?”
