Ten days after narrowly defeating a bill to provide free school lunches to low-income K-12 students, the North Dakota Senate approved legislation to increase the amount of money lawmakers and other state employees receive in meal reimbursements.

I’m two nights into using a positive airway pressure machine (I need bipap instead of the more commonly known cpap for sleep apnea), and I can say this is life changing.

I’ve been told by everyone that sleeps with me that I snore real bad. If I take a nap on the couch, I’d frequently wake up gasping. When I started getting written up at work for dozing off, even though I was in bed for 7-8 hours of sleep the night before, I figured it was time for a sleep study.

Turns out I have severe sleep apnea…. And with this machine, it’s like I’ve never had good sleep in years, maybe decades.

I have vivid dreams that I remember now. I can actually wake up and get out of bed on the first alarm clock going off, instead of hitting the snooze at least 4+ times before I actually get up. And I don’t hit an hour and a half long wall in the middle of my day… I feel refreshed and alert all day.

The tech told me that people with the worst sleep apnea (I.e., definitely me) see the greatest benefit from treatment.

So if anyone’s on the fence about getting a sleep study done, I highly recommend it.

can’t second this enough. I never knew what good sleep actually felt like until I got my cpap machine.

Obviously I didn’t expect this tree to fall here which is why a professional is doing these two…

Very much this. Got one myself to find out what’s wrong with me. Basically no apnea but a deviated septum results in snoring and mouth breathing for me. What my insurance won’t cover is a septoplasty since it isn’t deviated severely enough.

Covered the sleep study no problem though.

Out of curiosity, how much is the surgery if you just pay it out of pocket. I’m sure it is a super deal compared to what the going rate is here.

Oh it is. But I don’t have an American salary either. Relative to salary, the price difference isn’t huge.

So what’s the number? Is it under $2K USD? Just curious how big the spread is.

Varies based on clinic since most cosmetic surgery is performed private and by exchange rate when comparing in US dollars. Found two places that charge (including recovery) around 30,000 CZK (around $1500) for only a septoplasty.

That’s about a month’s salary for an average Czech person.

THAT’S NOT ENOUGH SOCIALISM!

Wow that’s super cheap! My wife just got a nasal surgery (also for breathing issues) that is much less complicated and expensive, and our portion of the payment is almost that much. The whole thing took 15 min max (excluding anesthesia and such).
