Thev star wars Rise of the Resistance ride at Disneyland is just ridiculously well done.

Can’t imagine the amount of work that went into it.

Beetlejuice is a wack packer. Nice critique. Enjoyed the content.

My small town had an interesting planning board election recently, the Boston Globe covers it here

The town is very NIMBY, we don’t build enough. A candidate ran to try and open up building more. The problem for some folks is that candidate was the founder of the Free State Project, which wants Libertarians to move to New Hampshire. There’s been a couple examples recently where NH Libertarians did their best to turn their towns into hellscapes.

It was interesting to watch it play out - Democrats that were generally amenable to building more didn’t want to vote for a Free Stater - a lot of talk about not letting the fox into the henhouse. Some Democrats wanted to vote for him because he was the most YIMBY candidate. Republicans that may like some Free Stater ideals didn’t want to vote for him because he wants to build. My wife says the town’s Facebook page got super heated.

Anyway, he got wafflecrushed.

Interesting article.

I think development rules need to be dealt with on a state level (I don’t think it’s possible to address federally, but maybe I’m wrong). Otherwise the areas that hold out the longest get to dump the issue on their neighbors. It really has to be a collective thing.

Oh wow I remember listening to an episode of This American Life about this Croydon thing! Really good piece if you have a half hour or so to spare:

These idiots nearly destroyed their entire school system by lopping 50% off the school budget with no plan for replacing the funds or dealing with the fallout/consequences. They interviewed several of them for the piece and they are every bit as insane as you’d expect. Even a bunch of Republicans turned against them. It’s a great explainer piece for why the vast majority of people cannot stand die-hard libertarians.

ETA It was also a nice little wake-up call for people there and elsewhere about the consequences of getting lazy and not paying attention to local elections.
