2023 LC Thread - It was predetermined that I would change the thread title (Part 1)

Despite proximity, Castaic is very not Santa Clarita.

Fair enough, I can tell the difference just from the maps, not even satellite view, about the characteristics of the development and such

I think my cell phone just always told me I was in Santa Clarita when I was parked in Castaic

Frazier Mountain Park was better for a quiet night of parking

The point of a library is to have an archive of the ideas and conversations that are personally important to you. My own shelves are arranged chronologically (something you will never see in a public-facing library), and this helps me see connections between different authors, ideas, and historical contexts.

Pretty cynical take. Lots of people actually read and annotate and repeatedly return to the books they own.

I do both of these things too. Sometimes thereā€™s a certain passage or argument or joke I need or just want to recall. My own copy will have the page dog-eared or marked in some way that I can find it. Itā€™s very relaxing.

As to the second point, a personal library can also be aspirational. Letā€™s not get nuts, but having some percentage of stuff you havenā€™t read but want to is fun too. When the power goes out sometimes you donā€™t feel like fucking and need a book to read instead.

If I ever live in another place in the LA area, Frazier Mtn is a contender as a place I might not hate and might be able to afford.

I used to have a fantasy of being ridiculously wealthy enough to buy the university library and live in it.

You could skip step one and just go for living in it. Wouldnā€™t be the only one.

I skipped both steps.

Hey!

Beverly Hills, Silver Lake, and Venice

Los Angelenos be careful, cops on high alert tonight. 3 cops shot, gunman still alive. If the gunman gets moving, who knows what kinda Dorner-level shit the cops do trying to chase him

I just walked by a 15 story library that sits on like an entire block, single handedly keeping librarians working I guess.

So itā€™s my birthday today. One time for the best birthday present ever?

I donā€™t know if a man like McConnell is capable of understanding the ephemeral nature of human existence, especially his own, but thoughts and prayers, Mitch.

Wonder why he had to go to the hospital, nobody was kind enough to just flip him back over?

All those uses cases seem more easily done with e readers or the Internet

I have always loved the idea of a home library, but gave up the idea of ever owning a house large enough to have one years ago and started to use a Kindle paperwhite instead. I wouldnā€™t have any books to put inside it :pensive:

I actually like the home bar. My friends and I drink as a hobby so Iā€™d love to have a nice setup for all the different liquors and mixers and whatnot.

Movie theater is meh. Itā€™s bar vs gym vs game room for me. Iā€™d probably go gym and game room.
