2023 LC Thread - It was predetermined that I would change the thread title (Part 1)

Recommended viewing for ChatGPT will end us people. The book is fun too.

We’ll be finding that out in about 90 minutes. If he posted what he is accused of posting, it is a problem in its own right. Not an excuse to solicit and distribute a photo of someone else’s junk, but will need to be addressed.

That’s a great Alan Tudyk role too.

My favorite recent movie about AI gaining sentience is Upgrade.

One reviewer said this was the Venom movie we deserved. That’s good. Real good.

Made by Leigh Whanenell, the director who wrote a bunch of the Saw and Insidious movies, then directed Upgrade (2018) and The Invisible Man (2020).

Upgrade is a legitimately good movie and like you said probably the best AI movie

Is there a movie where the AI taking over is a good thing because people are stupid?

That’s sort of what happens in Her. It’s just glossed over because of all the awwwwwwww feels the audience is having. Which is what the AI probably wants

Uhoh

Also!

The Matrix animated prequel shorts from The Animatrix make it clear that the AI wasn’t responsible for the war between humans and machines.

They did everything possible to broker peace with humans.

When that failed, the AI isolated themselves from humanity.

Humanity found them and nuked them, destroying the planet but not the robots.

The Matrix was built not as a prison, but to save humanity from itself.

I always get Her mixed up with Lars and the Real Girl

Snaps are generally deleted once read, but there are ways to select and save certain messages. For example, if A sends something to B, it may get automatically deleted from A’s phone (and eventually the Snapchat servers), but B could have taken a screenshot. [I guess A could theoretically take a screenshot too, but if you know want a record of something you sent you probably wouldn’t send it via snap in most cases]

Non-dramatic update: son says the thing he posted that made some girls mad was like a year ago, and it was him “rating” a girl, which he says Snapchat suggested in some way, and his rating was complementary, and did not include the girl’s name. Anyway, one of the carpool girls backed up the idea that there was no relationship between the post and this incident, so I’m not sure why the girls brought it up. Anyway, my wife said she wanted to check out my son’s phone and he handed it over without a moment’s hesitation.

But the good news is there was zero discussion of the dick pic at school today, so hopefully this just gets forgotten.

The lesson here is that if he does this as an adult, it will blow over, too.

I haven’t used Snapchat in years and years, but back then they were testing a feature that prevented you from taking screenshots or notifying the sender if you did.

Regarding the AI stuff.

Most AI scifi basically has AI has some version of a weird human. Like Data in star treck. Basically human but struggles with emotion.

But post ChatGPT. We know it wont be like that. It will be crazy intelligence in some areas, very broad, with the gaps being poor imitation attempts at sounding like a person. With all the emotion, language and everything else that goes along with it.

My online banking app says “cannot take screenshot due to privacy policy” and so does my HBO Max app when I press the screenshot buttons

The youtube app, if I have bought or rented a movie, will take the screenshot. But then I go to look at the screenshot, and it’s just an entirely black jpeg

Well there you go.

Happened with the programs I once used to capture gifs, too.

The dickpic was sent via instagram DM.

Watching Mark Maron’s new special

“Professor of misogyny from Canada” lol

Ticketmaster app doesn’t permit screenshots, either.
