The government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must not try to save Israelâs battered national honor, and that of the army, on the backs of helpless babies, children, teenagers, elderly people and parents, or on the backs of their families here in Israel, who are going crazy with worry and pain. No government, and certainly not the most reckless government in Israelâs history, has the right to traffic in the lives of innocent civilians and decide to sacrifice them on the altar of national pride. We must pay whatever is demanded, with no delays, no fancy maneuvering and no tricks.
Sources in the region, including in Hamas, have said the organization is willing to negotiate over a swap of Israeli women and children in exchange for Palestinian women and children imprisoned in Israel. Israelâs official response was presented by Culture Minister Miki Zohar, who said, âThere will be no negotiations with this terrorist organization.â But that principle has already been violated repeatedly in the past, and Israel agreed to âpayâ by releasing thousands of prisoners in exchange for a single soldier, some bodies and civilians.
Annoying Israeli reg at my table is trying to sell some cars for what he says is half off Blue Book because he needs money for back home.

So brave
Norwegian war profâs (not specializing in Israel-Palestine afaik) assessment of Israelâs aim to exterminate Hamas. Thoughts?
Professor Heier believes the effect of the attack will be short-lived. The attack is a short-term solution to a national crisis. Hamasâ attack last Saturday came as a shock to Israel. Now Hamas must be defeated, but with two million people in Gaza, Hamas will be able to rebuild itself, with good access to information, money and recruitment. In that sense, this is not a war Israel can win.
Hamas canât rebuild if there are no Palestinians left in Gaza.
I assume youâre trolling, but even Bibi and his merry band of idiots are extremely unlikely to go that far.
Yuv seems to be saying the sentiment in Israel is that the left wants to relocate them and the right wants to kill them, but no one wants any Palestinians left in Gaza.
Iâm curious. What percentage of Palestinians supported Hamas prior to the attack?
In gaza at least, canât really get a number as hamas are a bunch of fascists that donât tolerate criticism.
In fact, Gazan frustration with Hamas governance is clear; most Gazans expressed a preference for PA administration and security officials over Hamasâthe majority of Gazans (70%) supported a proposal of the PA sending âofficials and security officers to Gaza to take over the administration there, with Hamas giving up separate armed units,â including 47% who strongly agreed. Nor is this a new viewâthis proposal has had majority support in Gaza since first polled by The Washington Institute in 2014.
Nevertheless, there is widespread popular appeal for competing armed Palestinian factions, including those involved in the attack. Overall, 57% of Gazans express at least a somewhat positive opinion of Hamasâalong with similar percentages of Palestinians in the West Bank (52%) and East Jerusalem (64%)âthough Gazans who express this opinion of Hamas are fewer than the number of Gazans who have a positive view of Fatah (64%).
What is the logic connection between âeliminating Hamasâ and evacuating/destroying/invading northern Gaza? They only live up north?
Itâs not logic. Itâs DO SOMETHING, even something violent and horrific, is better than not doing something when presiding over an enraged population demanding action.
