Can one of you wiser peeps explain to this noob why there have been 15 votes for Speaker of the House?
Republicans have a slim majority of seats and a group of them that calls themselves the Freedom Caucus used that fact to extract concessions from McCarthy before theyād allow him to be Speaker.

you guys donāt have coalitions. this happens every election in multi-party systems. iām surprised US politicians only figured it out now

This is a fun fact if Iām remembering this correctly, but reading silently to yourself was actually a somewhat recent thing people started doing, I want to say after AD but could have been earlier in an antiquity. Like before that whenever people read they read aloud. Found some links, nothing super definitive though.

McCarthy said he wants to vote on rules tonight, but the Unstuck whip count indicates he doesnāt have the votes? Heāll probably want to take the W and negotiate over the weekend.
