How do these agreements get enforced. A contract seems pretty meaningless and easy to just ignore.
I expect all the Fort Worth and Georgia reps need to bail by end of weekend.
lol thatâs great.
i have kinda wondered why nobody has used a troll vote yet, esp once enough republicans have not voted mccarthy so their vote is pointless.
hillary clinton votes would be particularly awesome
Since McCarthy doesnât even have the votes to adjourn, the Democrats will eventually have to figure out when they want to go home for the day/weekend.
Doesnât look like they are whipping for adjournment yet:
Edited to remove tweet. Unverified source.
They will once make a movie about this, and it will be called âThe 212â.
What was 1923?
simple, McCarthy gets the gavel, and the dissenters will have the sword of Damocles (motion to vacate).
Round 11 here we go
Also, if McCarthy is elected speaker and he proposed a rules package they donât like, they vote against it and the deadlock continues with a powerless speaker.
This guy from AR talking about how he wants to cut spending even though none of his constituents have asked him to do so and many have asked him to increase it. Weird flex but OK
I mean so many members seem moldable like putty. One would think that 5 âmoderatesâ would vote no on an insane rules package, but I wouldnât bet on that. Maybe a one-time protest vote, but after McCarthy (or whomever) is speaker he could apply real pressure.
Also, if itâs not McCarthy the speaker wouldnât be bound by any of McCarthyâs negotiated concessions, but the freedumb caucus may require acceptance of the concession as a requirement for their vote for, say, Scalise. Still interesting ways things could develop.

Letâs see if Gaetz goes back to voting Trump. Edit: I was listening but didnât realize it was Gaetz that nominated him. Getting punchy here.
LOL, Bob Good going with the fancied up version of the Jeb Bush please clap
While holding up a blank piece of paper prop that wasnât blankâŚ
Thatâs a good point. In the House with no rules and no metal detectors, they can bring in whatever props they want.
Bada bada bada, bada bada bada da bada bada bada, whoop!

For those of us aware that this is going on but havenât dived into all the details, what exactly is the likely endgame here? Assuming we wonât just be doing speakers votes for two years.
I think the most likely outcome is they move on to Scalise or Stefanik. The next most likely is McCarthy gives in to the lunatics and âwins.â After that, a non-member speaker, followed by a compromise with democrats, followed by they fuck up the count somehow and Jeffries wins.
I think the Freedom Caucus is making the point that 200 Republican votes are worth nothing if they canât get 18 more. Itâs the House version of Manchin/Sinema. To get anything done/passed the Freedom Caucus will have to be appeased.
McCarthy winning while the runt caucus runs the show still seems the most likely outcome to me, but not more than 50 percent likely.
I donât see how this is even possible at this point. thereâs nothing that mccarthy can credibly offer them at this point that they havenât already been given.
