Because it isnt really going to create any dissension in Republican ranks. Trump endorsed McCarthy, nominating Trump isnt going to peel off new GOP votes, the vote is going to go the same as now just with Trump maybe instead of B Donalds. Most likely it will be Trump getting one vote.
Right now the GOP is a complete circus while Dems project as competent and united behind their new leader. Biden has also stated “not our problem, we are staying out of it”. Repeated 100% unanimous votes for Jeffries projects strength should negotiations on a compromise actually become possible as this proceeds. A Dem nominating Trump puts their fingerprints on this abortion.
I also seriously doubt any Dem wants to go on record as voting for Trump for Speaker of the House and have to explain “while I was just trolling” in a 2024 primary. Yeah, its probably a minor issue, but why go there.
This isnt hard. Just show keep showing up and voting Jeffries.

It seems entirely possible they end up with some complete clownshow speaker who isn’t a House member, like a random Fox News host or something.
It’d be encouraging unsophisticated Republican voters to be more rambunctious, potentially causing problems for GOP members in the House. I’d at least float the idea on social media and see if it induces a response from Trump.

I think the Freedom Caucus needs to come up with a plan for some of their members to vote present to cause a tie between McCarthy and Jeffries to prove a point, only for them to fuck up the math and accidentally make Jeffries Speaker.
