I paid for a factchecker for the Mesoamerica stuff in my book. There’s so much nonsense/conflicting information out there - including published books. I can’t imagine putting anything down on paper with confidence w/o the factchecker.
Luckily I was able to get a bonafide expert relatively cheap during covid. Also helps that I had a decent-paying day job.

That’s great that you were able and willing to do that. It’s so important to have good info out there, but I can totally understand how it would be tempting for even a well-intentioned person to not want to invest in that process. Respect.

The lies and corruption that Santos engaged in was probably a lot less harmful overall to the average American than that of most members of congress who lie and grift on a daily basis. It’s just that his lies were so numerous and over the top he had to get called out. Also, he frauded corporate donors, which is the big unforgivable no-no

House Republicans held a hearing Wednesday throwing cold water on President Joe Biden’s plan to give more workers overtime protections.
Even though the hearing was about employees who work long hours, the GOP chair of the House Committee on Education & the Workforce took a moment to argue that too many Americans don’t want to work at all.
“There’s just a lot of people in this country that don’t want to work, period … and want other people to take care of them,” said Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.).
Foxx added: “That’s not what this country is all about. We have great opportunities in this country for people to be successful, if they want to work hard.”
So glad to live in a country ruled by octogenarians.
Her Wiki says she grew up poor and worked hard as a young adult. Ok great. You worked hard and got yourself out of poverty. But the problem with people like this is that they’ll never admit or even understand how their white privilege assisted them like an invisible guardian angel every step of the way. People like this will never get it
