2022 NFL Gameday Thread: C’mon Damar (Part 1)

I wonder if this means he’s awake? Good news though for sure.

Man I can’t believe I’m saying this but I hope the bills win the super bowl with Damar on site

I’d imagine they wouldn’t be able to say for sure that he’s “neurologically intact” unless they at least briefly woke him up and made sure he could communicate, follow commands etc.

Yeah, I looked back and they say he “demonstrated” that he was neurologically intact, so yeah, not sure how you do that if you’re unconscious. This is by far the most hopeful thing yet.

Awake might not be the right word. When you’re on a breathing machine they’ll decrease the amount of sedation you’re on every day or so and see how you respond. Patients will open their eyes up during this and even respond, but they’re not awake in the way that normal people think. There’s lots of gradation between what normal people think of as ‘awake’ and ‘asleep’.

Yea that is super promising news and very good to hear. Would really love for this to have a happy ending. Damar seems like such a genuinely good dude.

That is amazing news.

In more amazing news, his GoFundMe topped $7M this morning. I so want him to be able to find that out.

I read this as very good news. Biggest hope is that he comes out of this with normal or near normal neuro function.

Kaiir Elam tweeted:

Our boy is doing better, awake and showing more signs of improvement. Thank you God. Keep the prayers coming please. All love 3!

Couldn’t like tweet because twit acting weird.

What do people think about the idea thrown out of a neutral site AFC championship game?

Top seed still gets a bye and only has to play one of the other big 3 (KC, Cin, Buf).

I actually don’t think homefield (for KC specifically) matters much. I’d bet both Cin and Buf straight up in Arrowhead. On the other hand the HF between Cin and Buf when they meet is huge.

So the bottom line is that solution doesn’t address many of the biggest advantages of the relative seeding.

Bigly good news on the medical front. Won’t feel like he’s “out of the woods” until the tube is out, but I’d guess there is reason now to be pretty optimistic.

I also heard the NFL is floating voiding the game, seeding by Win%, and letting the #1 seed choose between the first round bye or home field in the championship game (if they make it), and the #2 gets the other option.

Initial thought was that seemed interesting and reasonably fair, seeing how 1/2/3 are going to be some combo of KC/BUF/CIN. Seems more fair if BUF wins on Sunday and loses out on the %, and maybe less so if KC/CIN win and BUF loses, as CIN wouldn’t have tied KC in this scenario.

You can’t just change the rules to the playoffs one week before the playoffs start

Oh Green Bay lost last game of season? We I guess 8 teams make the NFC playoffs and no byes ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Sure you can. It’s literally just a game.

I was going to say, technically you can. There is no law preventing them from changing all the rules. It’s just a matter of it is viable to get it passed the owners (and maybe the players).

If game is canceled, that means Bengals will have played 7 home games to 9 away games against the #1 DVOA strength of schedule. It’s amazing that Chainsaw got the money in great for all the wrong reasons and still lost.

Thanks for the verification

In a press conference from the hospital, doctors say that Hamlin has been able to communicate with them in writing (he’s still on a ventilator), and one question he asked was who won the game.

This seems like really darn good news.
