From a fan standpoint I like this. Football every weekend. A single game of BUF/CIN would seem bizarre.
Is there any combo of result that renders the BUF/CIN mute if everything else is done (or say it only drives the 2 and 3 seeds at which point they should just flip a coin.
I had said that earlier, I think by doing it this way the NFL is kinda hoping that week 18 results make both teams go “oh never mind” and they can just roll with the normal playoff schedule.
I’ll quickly change your mind on this. First of all, 180s are still hard to hit which is illustrated by these three darts I just threw. First one was in, second was high, third one isn’t pictured because I tried to cram it in there and got a bounce out. That’s while you’ll often see pros move off the T20 and onto the T19 as a cover shot depending on the grouping and entry angle. Missing is also more costly around the T20.
Now for the real reason. Notice how the logo (Winmau) on the outer ring is off center at 4:00 instead of 12:00? That’s because you’re supposed to rotate the board to get even wear patterns. You can wear out the T20 quickly pounding it in 01 games, so if the bull was the key target then these boards would have much shorter lifespans. The better boards cost around $100, so having ten different sites for the “main” target significantly increases the amount of play you can squeeze out of one board.
There’s also more relative surface area of spider to contend with at the center. That’s why an even smaller bullseye like you’re talking about can’t really be a thing. The newer boards have thin beveled wire (i.e., blade) to minimize bounce outs, but it’s still significant at the double bull:
Doing another ring inside of that would lead to a very high % of bounce outs. But even if they developed a microns-wide spider that it made possible, the pros would just hammer it and reach the end game of 01 variants faster, which is really about check outs and not which bulk scoring target is slightly more difficult for them to hit.
If you want to see bullseye, watch a professional soft-tip darts tournament. Single and double bulls are both worth 50 so it’s like all they shoot at in 01. I watched Phil Taylor play against Team Japan once and don’t think he missed one.
Just saw a local Philly news feature on Unequal, a company that makes chest protectors specifically for the presumed cause of Damar’s cardiac arrest. Apparently USA girls/womens lacrosse mandates use.
I don’t remember if they were required when my kid was in Little League, but he wore a padded shirt (I assume they aren’t as good as the ones linked above - just the standard ones you find at sporting goods stores). He didn’t mind wearing it. It was pretty comfortable and actually looked pretty cool if he wasn’t wearing his jersey. We called it his superhero shirt.
Not sure how much you can apply this to football. Those guys are in some pads to begin with. The comparison you want is these chest protectors vs standard pads. It sounds like here they did protector vs nothing.
