2022 Midterm Elections (Abandon hope all ye who enter here) butnahhh. or maybe?

Ten months ago we watched an unprecedented storming of our Capitol building by our own citizens; last night all over the country people came out in blue states to turn government over to the party supported by those very people. Okay to panic now or nah?

Conspiracy theory and Joe Rogan has captured ton of young people for republicans.

Whoever said Facebook has destroyed our society is correct

Hot take: we would be in a better spot if 1/6 had been more successful.

I don’t think anything would have mattered because Dems are too fucking useless. They could have killed a couple senators and we would still be in the same spot. Dems wouldn’t punish Republicans for it

They’d push for a bi partisan effort to hunt down extremists on both sides

As we spiral towards facism, maybe it was all about the friends we made along the way.

Exactly. The equation is
Bare minimum support to keep the wheels of capitalism moving VS Bare minimum support to keep the wheels of capitalism moving plus making stuck up arrogant NYT readers and writers mad and occasional amusing tweets.

As it stands there is zero that the dems have done with their trifecta that trump wouldn’t have also done in his second term. He might have actually given away the full 2k instead of bargaining down to 1.4.

This is fair but its also a poor metaphor. Pendulums swing equally left to right. In the US, since Reagan the pendulum swings 1 degree left and then 10 degrees right, 1 degree left and then 10 degrees right, etc. and then oh look actual Nazis are on the verge of running the country.

If you’re a working class white person it’s not even irrational to vote for Trump, racism aside. He might randomly decide to ship out checks or bully Congress into passing free healthcare or whatever. Dems give you means tested shit sandwiches that are thinly veiled welfare plans for their donors.

How are Dems helping

One theory I have is that culture wars don’t work at the municipal level because even racist rich people will prioritize having their garbage picked up on time over racism. I’m sure many municipalities have structural racism, but people can’t win just by running on racism.

Or racist white people fled, so culture war stuff works in the suburbs but not so much in the major cities.

Also, the CRT thing is their strategy, but what we’re imagining CRT is and what voters think it is are vastly different

McAuliffe ran a terrible campaign that learned NOTHING from 2016

“They are one of the good ones.”

What the fuck

It depends on the issue. The dems tend to make and hold progress on economic issues pretty well, like the ACA. The GOP is winning their war on social issues like guns and abortion. There’s been both rightward and leftward movement in the last 30 years. We have gay marriage and legal weed, but abortion is all but banned in deep red areas.
