2022 Midterm Elections (Abandon hope all ye who enter here) butnahhh. or maybe?

It’s impossible to overstate how badly the Democrats have fumbled the last two years and the last chance to turn things around. They didn’t even try. When the documentary comes out about the fall of the US they will be villains alongside the GOP Neville Chamberlain style.

Is there anybody that still has hope?

Are you officially on team WAAF?

because ghouls in the leadership like pelosi want to maintain the cushy status quo that allows them to enrich themselves while their constituents suffer and still vote for them anyway, meanwhile anyone in a position to actually do anything or speak up isn’t doing so, for reasons I used to not be able to understand til I concluded that they’re all in on it, regardless of their stated political philosophy

Guess we didn’t vote hard enough giving them control of the entire federal government.

I guess technically I still have a sliver of hope that the GOP will make the USA so uninhabitable that Cascadia will finally happen in the next couple of decades.

The GOP using the military to subjugate the dirty heathen west coast lefties is about 10x more likely than this possibility at this point.

I think the future is pretty hard to predict. What I know for sure is that fascists can’t govern and the United States has already been so poorly governed for such a long time that it’s beginning to fall apart in really noticeable ways.

How that plays out… yeah I don’t know my crystal ball is broken, but we’re definitely in for a bumpy ride. Oh well, chaos is a ladder I guess.

There have been plenty of countries overtaken by fascists. How that plays out in the context of by far the worlds largest military and a (somehow still) dominant economy - who fucking knows. Slow decline is the best case scenario and the tail risks are actual Armageddon.

They don’t want to govern. It’s quite easy to predict. The SC and GOP are going all in on absolute state’s rights, and if this continues I think you’re going to start to see 2 very different countries develop within itself

I actually don’t have a problem with that, if red states want to be a dystopian hellhole, go for it, but I don’t want to subsidize it with my taxes

Nah, it’s states’ rights when the dems are in charge of or involved in the federal government. That tune will change in a hurry once they have a stranglehold on all of it. They’re not going to let us just do our thing out here.

If your taxes are subsidizing a dystopian hellhole why would they let you leave?

Real talk - who rhe fuck is voting for these Nazis? Like seriously… are there that many old people? Is it gen x being closeted bigots? I don’t get it.

Since we’re fucked the only thing to look forward to now is Medicare and Social security get nuked and boomers being left in the streets by their kids who hate them. What a sad state of affairs.

The problem is that the fascist/not fascist breakdown in America isn’t actually on a state by state basis, its a divide that exists between rural and urban areas in all states. So even in places like NY and California, if the fascist rednecks attain control of their state legislature then you can’t escape that.

Fascism says is that the world is simple and all problems have easy solutions if only “they” would stop corruptly preventing them from being implemented. Just need a strong leader to cut through the BS.

That is a very easy message to sell.

I’m not convinced that’s set in stone, though. I think what most of the quasi-fascists and their enablers really want is a more rigid hierarchy that places themselves higher and defines a clear enemy on the bottom. So the urban/rural divide could quickly reform into regional rivalries. It’s not like MAGA has any real ideology. Hatred is fungible. It just needs a target.

Anyway, my state seems immune. The least populated areas are some of the bluest.

Yeah it’s mind-numbing. Trump… a strong leader. Guy is a grade coward and weakling.

oh man I’d be furious if I was the R with that, a cutoff like that really shouldn’t be a thing

we already are on that train regardless of what happens, the left/right don’t want anything to do with each other

How could we not be?

Even if we hit the one-outer of holding the house and getting 53-47 D senate, what are Democrats going to do over the next two years?

A ton of state legislatures will still be nightmares, and 2024 nationally looks extremely grim.

Yes, exactly this. Look no further than the states where the Rs have control and how they use preemption laws to stop the blue cities from doing shit they don’t like.
