it’s election day here, getting ready to go vote out our county DA (who I happen to know socially), my wife is mad that I’m voting against her because “she’s a good mom and she volunteers at school and she’s nice” (her youngest son and my youngest are in the same class, her husband was the middle school golf coach, etc).
the guy running against her is a law professor and the big attack ads against him are trying to link him to Chesa Boudin which seems impossibly esoteric, like I’m fucking soaking in this shit 24/7 and I barely know who that is, there’s no way this sort of attack has any effect on normies.
anyway, I wish the TV ads were on youtube, they’ve gotten way more vicious than I’ve seen in a local race before and a few of them are hilarious.
It’s going to be a fun race. Kari Lake, not unlike Trump, has name (and face) recognition from being a TV personality (local news anchor). But it seems like there’s some question about whether her hardcore MAGA stuff might all be an act.
Her main primary opponent based some attack ads on calling her “FAKE LAKE” and tried to say she has in the past supported “amnesty for illegals”, supported Barack Obama, and (OMG!) only joined the NRA last year.
I’m working on the election again this year and we’ll still be counting ballots for a few more days. But even though our system works very well and should be a model for other states, she’s still saying that one of her priorities will be “cleaning up the state’s election system once and for all”.
The last time an R won the Presidential election in CA was 1988. California was 57% white not-hispanic in the 1990 census and is 35% white not-hispanic now.
interesting gambit by the democrats to first jack up inflation, take the media heat, who all-in on the game anyway, then just as swiftly drop inflation, but not talk about it at all. because they are also in on it.
