This makes me think lol progressives who can’t beat an anti-abortion incumbent in a primary.
It makes me think that most people don’t pay enough attention to politics to parse out or even understand the difference between candidates in primaries or even general elections.
I think it’s that literally nobody but the anti abortion culty people actually want unwanted babies.
Would be curious to see the demographic splits on the issue rn
That’s DeVos country. They’ve also had some police shooting incidents too. This will be a bell weather district.
Narrator Ds do better than expected, but Rs still took the house and Trump chosen as speaker. Biden and Harris are dressed in head to toe Kevlar for the next two years.
Rigged! Voter fraud! Stop the Steal!
They don’t want those babies. They’re brown. Well maybe Jim Hairball.
Double down. Every time. Double down.
huh, Democratic policies are wildly popular even in Kansas. I’m sure the party will learn nothing from this and campaign on Orange Man Bad! again in 2024.
Gotta merge their range here and go “Orange Man Bad, unless you think he’s good then Orange Man Good!”
Didn’t the Kansas amendment just put abortion back in the hands of the state legislature to pass whatever?
Liar in addition to a cruel idiot, i.e. median R?
Double down and still somehow outperform all polls, predictions etc in November because waaf
I think there are things in the state constitution that prevents the legislature from acting. The proposition was to remove those restrictions.
I’m pretty sure abortions after 22 weeks are banned except in certain cases in Kansas already. Not that i am surprised to see these people frame their arguments outside the scope of reality.
The other conclusion that you can draw from what happened in Kansas is that if you give voters agency over their own lives they will come out and vote in droves. The fact 20% of voters didn’t bother to vote in the primary otherwise shows that.
No one is excited to vote for Dems in 2022 because everyone knows they won’t do what they say. If that were to change though and a vote for Dems was a vote for easy and affordable access to abortion and health care, legalization of mj, student loan reform, and the rest of the laundry list of popular policies out there then you would attract the group of people who saved abortion in Kansas last night. But these people aren’t going to bother to vote in November given the current trajectory of the Dem party imo.
I’m a bit afraid the wrong conclusions are going to be drawn from last night. Partially because Kansas isn’t Oklahoma or Mississippi. I bet this ballot measure actually does pass in those places. And partially because of what I typed above.
The Dems can possibly still save 2022 and beyond if they actually promise to do things like codify Roe and do other crazy radical things like follow through on what they ran in 2020 on. And then actually do it.
But voters don’t trust eDem fossils to do anything. This Kansas ballot measure vote isn’t indicative of trends for the midterms. When you have a direct democracy vote on a ballot measure then there is no agency problem. I’m pretty sure that a national referendum on the major legislation that the House passes and Manchin/Sinema blocks would also result in overwhelming approval. People can be actually pretty good at sniffing out agency problems. Or at least when agents fail them they get pisses off because its a violation of trust. The main takeaway eDems should have from Kansas ballot measures going way against Republicans is that nobody likes them and they should fuck off and take cushy lobbying jobs and let people vote for people we actually like.
I am more optimistic than most of you here but even I can readily admit they won’t actually do jack shit with 52 senators. It just means the asshole blocking what the vast majority of the party’s voters want becomes Jon Tester or whoever instead of Manchinema.
Lest we forget, JOE BIDEN doesn’t want to do most of this stuff. He yawned his way through Dobbs. He simply doesn’t care.
Dems should be pounding the table on what’s going on in Kansas, instead they’re going to make sure everyone stays focused on the 1/6 hearings that will go nowhere.
