Don’t make me do to you what I did to the first seven clovises. It was really gruesome.
He’s famous for all of it. 500,000 people still visit Graceland every year. He obviously is more than a clown to many people. I think you underestimate both the quality of his music (which is subjective of course) and the degree of influence he had on pop music. The second part I dont think is arguable. He crossed some musical color lines and that changed things. Maybe it’s “just” appropriation but it still had a big impact.
Help me solve a dilema.
My mom is cleaning out her garage and brought over some of my high school stuff.
In the boxes is about 10 of those old disposal cameras that I think you can still get processed at some drug stores. Im sure theres a lot of cool nostalgic stuff on them that id love to see.
The dilema though, is that these cameras are most likely from when I was dating my high school grilfriend, and as teenagers are wont to do, there is a possibility (probably less than a likelyhood) that there is some nude pictures of my at the time not of age girlfriend on there.
Develop or not?
Oh, I also was not of age at the time, in case anyone was confused
Develop and throw away any pictures that make you uncomfortable.
Sure, im fine with that. Im actually more worried with the possible legal issues. I have no idea if these things get reviewed by the developers and if they have like a duty to report or whatever
Wtf Elvis has 29M monthly listeners on Spotify and the Beatles have 25M!
The world makes no sense.
I concede.
Who the fuck are these people???
It’s all done by machines AFAIK and even if somebody somehow caught a glance. How could they tell the difference between a 16 year old and an 18 year old? IANAL so that is just me speculating
Have you listened to any Elvis?
This is literally copy/paste from Wikipedia. Seems pretty self-explanatory why he would be considered a pop culture icon.
Having sold over 500 million records worldwide, Presley is recognized as the best-selling solo music artist of all time by Guinness World Records. He was commercially successful in many genres, including pop, country, R&B, adult contemporary, and gospel. Presley won three Grammy Awards, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36, and has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame. He holds several records, including the most RIAAcertified gold and platinum albums, the most albums charted on the Billboard 200, the most number-one albums by a solo artist on the UK Albums Chart, and the most number-one singles by any act on the UK Singles Chart.
Lots. It’s mostly cheesy lounge music imo. Cash, Holly, Perkins, Berry, Dylan, Springsteen, etc make him look like a joke.
lol springsteen lol clovis
Do any of you ever actually listen to his music?
Everyone seems to really want to defend him but I would bet none of you ever listen to his music.
The last time I checked Elvis was the top selling single artist of all time. Just because he’s not your cup of tea doesn’t mean he wasn’t/isn’t insanely popular.
Also, just as a more general question, how much “pop culture” influence do you realistically expect someone who died almost 50 years ago to have? The pop culture zeitgeist is mainly driven by folks under 30 and a lot of those people don’t know Kurt Cobain or realize that Dr. Dre was a rapper before he started Beats so I don’t find it surprising that they aren’t bringing up Elvis on the reg.
That’s great.
It was early in the 1st lockdown that I learnt that cutting shapes was a real thing and not just a phrase - and that to do it well takes work.
edit: although the above maybe a shuffle not a shape.
The tech has prolly changed but when I developed them like 20 years ago you most definitely could see them. In addition to being a nosy kid we were supposed to check to make sure they all developed because they were charged per picture.
Well you’re just wrong. Before I gave all my records away I had a couple of Elvis compilations on vinyl. Digitized some of that and it’s on my computer to this day.
Admittedly I don’t listen to it much, but I don’t listen to ANY music from that era regularly. I probably do listen to it more than Chuck Berry or Buddy Holly (but, again, I don’t listen to anything from that early rock era very often). And by the time you get to even early Dylan, Beatles or Stones years had passed since Elvis’ debut, and that is a lifetime in terms of rock evolution (and, again, all of those artists cite Elvis as an influence!)
Like:
More than 90 Elvis Presley records reached the charts, with 10 of them reaching number one. These figures are only for the pop charts and only in America. He was also a leading artist in the American country, R&B, and gospel fields, and his chart success in other countries was substantial.
Bruce Springsteen might have some of the most recognizable songs in the world, but none of them have garnered the top spot on the Hot 100. Casual Springsteen fans might be surprised to know that The Boss has never hit No 1 on the Hot 100 .
And that isn’t even considering the cultural changes about rock and roll he made. I didn’t bold anything. Just copy pasta’d.
