Although I have a lot less experience than you dealing with psychotics, it wouldn’t be a “complete slam dunk” to me unless he was a legitimate risk to hurt his kids.
In fact, I’d rather have any minor children removed from his home rather than locking him up solely for crazy thoughts.
You may be right, but I find it hard to believe that it’s easier to get a judge to extend a 3-day hold than it is for a CPS worker and a couple of cops to remove children from a home (when it can then take weeks or months to reunify).
I guess I said “locking up” because I assume patients can refuse meds and forestall a quicker stabilization, or does your jurisdiction allow for forced meds?
My psychiatrist almost hospitalized me twice when I was in the depths of my depression. She called my roommate and had her verify that I didn’t have any weapons. It’s probably the only reason she let me go home. It was a very unsettling experience.
I’ve probably never mentioned this before. A “psychic” made this prediction in 1976, it was uh, pretty unlikely to happen, given that Adelaide is located on a gulf providing protection from the ocean and is in a very geologically stable part of the world. The Premier, Don Dunstan, first in the nation to legalise homosexuality and a closeted gay man himself, promised to go stand on the foreshore in one of the most popular beach suburbs (in which I was born 4 years later). I don’t think there was any “mass panic” as the tweet would have it, the whole thing was considered a joke.
Some people showed up to work wearing diving masks and stuff.
Obviously, nothing happened. The “psychic” moved to NSW not long afterwards. Legend has it that his house was destroyed in floodwaters, but I’ve never seen this documented so it’s probably apocryphal.
Lol. Plus destination weddings are usually cheaper, not more expensive, because the guests are paying for their own hotel, and the hotel therefore usually cuts a deal to the bride and groom in exchange for guaranteeing a certain number of people booking. I went to one years ago in the Dominican Republic at an all-inclusive and had a blast. This story is wild.
Weddings are definitely an accelerant to the worst behaviors because they are so emotionally charged and, as the saying goes, a “once and a lifetime” event.
I have cousin that is an event planner in NYC. She made a good living for a long time doing stuff like awards shows or fundraising galas (there are plenty of them in NYC!). People used to ask her why she didn’t do some weddings for extra money. That off the deep end Facebook post is probably the tail of the distribution, but there are plenty of wedding horror stories in the meatier part of the distribution as well. “Bridezilla” is a thing for a reason.
Anyway, nothing surprises me anymore. Social media has exposed the completely delusional lives of so many people, and even worse it has given them a chance to find each other and reinforce their views. There’s a good chance when this person comes back to social media that she ends up in a Facebook circle with sympathetic fellow lunatics with victim complexes.
