Need some help, so I had like 3k left on student loans at start of pandemic pause, I went ahead and paid it off during the pandemic. Can I get refund and then the forgiveness wipes out the 3k? I’m confused
Yea I found an article that said department of Ed said if you paid off you are still eligible for forgiveness and noted some borrowers had said their servicers had told them that if they received a refund then their loans would reopen and forgiveness applied to that so should be good, just have to wait on phone for an hour to talk to someone at mohela.
I think the October website thing is if the department of education doesn’t have your income, which I guess it says they would only have it if you were on an income based repayment plan or something.
So I guess I’ll have to wait for the website which should be coming this month

Assuming your loans qualify, my understanding is that you can do that now.

There have been a couple lawsuits filed against it though. The first one involved a dude who was alleging his tax liability was going to be increased by like $1k if he had his $20k in student loans forgiven. This is obviously absurd because who wouldn’t take getting $20k forgiven for a $1k tax bill. To get around this argument the feds said you can opt out and not have your loans forgiven if you don’t want to avoid the tax bill.
The federal government also issued a memo saying that debt forgiveness wouldn’t be federally taxable but some states have explicitly stated the forgiven student loan debt is taxable as income at the state level. Lol those states.
Second lawsuit was filed recently by a few states saying Brandon doesn’t have the legal authority to do it and that it hurts taxpayers and loan servicing companies.
3rd lawsuit filed this week says student loan forgiveness is actually racist because the White House said it was implemented to specifically help minorities.

My house is on a dead end that Google shows as a through street and we get a few people a year having to back out. Reported it to Google and they responded a few weeks later saying they couldn’t verify the street was a dead end and weren’t going to fix it. Bastards.
If I asked Google to fix the using my driveway like that and they didnt, I would definitely buy a nice low-profile spike strip and put that across the driveway.
