2022 LC Thread—New Year, New Thread

It looks like some coward deleted it from the Wiki but mine is the Emu War

The emus only lost ~15% of their force going up against dudes with machine guns!

The machine-gunners’ dreams of point blank fire into serried masses of Emus were soon dissipated. The Emu command had evidently ordered guerrilla tactics, and its unwieldy army soon split up into innumerable small units that made use of the military equipment uneconomic. A crestfallen field force therefore withdrew from the combat area after about a month.[13]

Are the people of Tonga okay?

No reported deaths yet apparently - lots of damage.

People on Tonga described their country as looking like a moonscape as they began the task of cleaning up from the tsunami waves and ash fall caused by the eruption. Communications with the island nation remained limited after the internet was cut soon after the eruption on Saturday evening.

There were no reports of injuries or deaths, although concerns remained for the fate of people on some of the smaller islands near the volcano.

My pipes froze in part of my house the other day. It was like -4 F or something. Tonight and tomorrow, we’re supposed to get about a foot of snow, then maybe some sleet or freezing rain. Probably going to do some skiing tomorrow. Winter has it’s good and bad points.

This is really good.

I’m 41. I need to know that people in my age range will occasionally, not every time, but occasionally, leave a room in homage of this.

Reminds me of the guy back on 22 who was cocksure that MLK would oppose critical race theory.

It’s become an MLK Day tradition that some rightwing dickhead will appropriate MLK in completely tasteless and trolling way on Twitter. This year seems fairly tame tbh.

Looking pretty bad.

New Zealand is sending aid to disaster-struck Tonga, but ash on the capital’s main airport runway is preventing relief planes from landing.

It will also take days before military ships with supplies will reach the islands, said New Zealand authorities.

Fears of a possible humanitarian crisis developing on Tonga are growing after Saturday’s massive volcano eruption.

It sparked a tsunami and severed an undersea cable, cutting off the country from the outside world.

My original idea was to put that in the streaming thread, but I got distracted by youtoobz.
