2022 LC Thread—New Year, New Thread

Yeah I googled it. I don’t think we have it in Australia? Hotpot means something different there. It’s a dish that you order. Similar constituents but not DIY.

If what we call hotpot isn’t available in Sydney, I’ll eat my hat.

Yeah I googled and it seems like we do have it and lol me. I’m a pretty infrequent Chinese eater.

I’m looking up Australian hotpot and that seems like a stew. Do you have any Japanese restaurants offering shabu-shabu or sukiyaki?

Sure. You can get anything South East Asian in Australia, as you might expect. Only reason I thought we might not have hotpot is that Chinese is weird in that different Western countries have different versions of what “Chinese” is. For example, you can’t get General Tso’s Chicken in Australia because that is a dish that was made up in Americanized Chinese.

Slim but non-zero chance I could make this happen. You going to be in Seattle proper or Oly area?

Seattle proper. Happy lamb hot pot.

OK, assume I am out, but the stars could align such that I am up that way and can get away from my family to meet up with some fellow Unstuckied.

Drop a note on here if you can make it.

Thanks for the offer, but I can’t make it this Sunday. I do have some outdated Chinatown experience. Sunday waits at the dim sum spots used to be 45 minutes if you’re lucky. I’d expect hot pot to be packed too, soI hope you have a reservation.

We’re going for lunch… I’ve never had to wait more than 10 minutes on the weekends at lunch time.

I haven’t eaten in Chinatown for 10 years, but weekends at dim sum spots were nuts unless you got there at 10:30am. Maybe times have changed. My former favorite restaurant there was Hing Loon, maybe a few doors down from Happy Lamb.

I can’t shed a tear over a dead Republican.

That story is pitch black irony.

I read this and was super jealous because I just got my annual rejection email from The Masters lottery and thought you meant you won that. But I think you mean Springsteen tickets, which is cool too though.
