2022 LC Thread—New Year, New Thread

Yea it’s just reversed. Still cool for a couple minutes.

Uh oh. Might need a new OP for this impending disaster.

I guess France saw how great white nationalism worked for the UK and the US and decided to give it a try.

I think the average white French person is probably even more certain of their natural superiority than your average US or UK white person. Have you ever met someone from France?

I honeymooned in Paris and they were all lovely people despite us being very obviously American tourists. The moment we got back to the states the very first person we encountered was a huge bitch. I suppose crowd control at an airport us enough to sour anyone but it was quite the contrast

Part of me loves that this is happening in rebellion against an increased retirement age, the French do not fuck around with any infringement on leisure, but it’s very not good it’s manifesting in racist fascism.

I was thinking more of the French people from outside of the major cities, they hate people that don’t speak French, people that aren’t white, people that generally don’t agree that white French culture is the best culture in the world.

That sounds awfully familiar

I always search by PMID. Haven gotten it to work in days.

I tried DOI and it said it doesn’t have the article. I tested one that I have accessed on there before.

Never actually tried title.

The outside one seems like it would be tough even with that. Sliding on cardboard boxes seems difficult.

Is there a specific article you need?

Not really. I have access by other means, it’s just that sci-hub was so fast and easy.

How much is in bottled water (which is usually tap water anyway)? Turns out you have no way of knowing, because it is tested less frequently than tap water, the results aren’t made public, and there aren’t any regulations for hexavalent chromium content. But I’m sure we can trust responsible global corporations like Nestle and PepsiCo.

If you have genuine concerns about your tap water (you probably shouldn’t), buy a water filter. Don’t buy bottled water. The collective environmental effects of packaging and transporting it are far worse for public health than drinking what comes out of your tap.

I’ve taken that high speed railway and it’s the smoothest ride I’ve ever had on a train in my life.

I did.

In my grad school days, I sometimes made coffee with 12Mohm water from the distiller. Didn’t taste any different.

And it’s only going from Bakersfield to Modesto or something. No one has any idea if or when the last portions over the mountains around the bay area or the grapevine before LA will ever be finished.

LA to Vegas would make infinitely more sense - almost all flat. But no one wants to pay for that.

Woman faces Texas murder charge after self-induced abortion

RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas – A 26-year-old woman has been charged with murder in Texas after authorities said she caused “the death of an individual by self-induced abortion,” in a state that has the most restrictive abortion laws in the U.S.

It’s unclear whether Lizelle Herrera is accused of having an abortion or whether she helped someone else get an abortion.

Bottled water is also almost always chock full of microplastic particles, the health effects of which are unclear, but probably not great.

The bottles also leach antimony at high temperatures.
