I feel like the NFL has been promoting the final week of the regular season more this year and including more primetime games.
I have no idea why. 75% of the games are meaningless for both teams and they just don’t want to get any significant players hurt. In my 20 years of following the NFL I basically have three Week 17 memories.
Matt Flynn throwing for like 500 yards against the Lions
The 4th and 24 to knock the Vikings out of the playoffs
there was a panthers and packers running up the score on the other team they were playing trying to win a tiebreaker vs the other to make the playoffs and both games were on at the same time.
ended up all not mattering as the cowboys won the night game
wildest seems to be chiefs needing a win and needing team with nothing to play for (but they played brady anyway so they won) beating the titans, bad team with nothing to play for beating the bengals on the road (in OT) and bad team with nothing to play for beating the broncos on the road (also in OT)
most recent of note was the andy dalton bengals knocking the ravens out to get the bills in right
To help Davonte Adams break the team record for receiving yards in a season.
Based on how the season started, I think a case can be made that Rodgers should play at least a quarter and get some reps in instead of taking a couple of weeks off.
