2021 NFL Gameday Thread

I feel like the NFL has been promoting the final week of the regular season more this year and including more primetime games.

I have no idea why. 75% of the games are meaningless for both teams and they just don’t want to get any significant players hurt. In my 20 years of following the NFL I basically have three Week 17 memories.

  1. Matt Flynn throwing for like 500 yards against the Lions

  2. The 4th and 24 to knock the Vikings out of the playoffs

  3. DeSean Jackson punt return against the Giants

Lots of nfl records and team records to be broken tomorrow with the extra game.

there was a panthers and packers running up the score on the other team they were playing trying to win a tiebreaker vs the other to make the playoffs and both games were on at the same time.

ended up all not mattering as the cowboys won the night game

wildest seems to be chiefs needing a win and needing team with nothing to play for (but they played brady anyway so they won) beating the titans, bad team with nothing to play for beating the bengals on the road (in OT) and bad team with nothing to play for beating the broncos on the road (also in OT)

most recent of note was the andy dalton bengals knocking the ravens out to get the bills in right

Why is Aaron Rodgers playing football today?

so if the jags win then the chargers and raiders can intentionally tie to game and both team make the playoff

if steelers also win makes that scenario win and in, tie and in, lose and out for both teams

if steelers also lose, raiders are in anyway so there’d be no reason to intentionally do anything

To help Davonte Adams break the team record for receiving yards in a season.

Based on how the season started, I think a case can be made that Rodgers should play at least a quarter and get some reps in instead of taking a couple of weeks off.

Genuinely hoping for non life threatening or painful Packers injuries

Except for Rodgers, good with him suffering

These statistical records are meaningless.

Meaning is subjective. Some people believe only rings matter. Other people believe that other playoff appearances have meaning.

I think they all know it’s not the same as a 16-game season, but its still cool for them.

I was glad a few got broken last week instead of this one. It sucks now.

Teams that rest their starters before the playoff bye underperform relative to those that don’t.

Small sample and probably weighed down by the loser Colts.

In 20 years (maybe less) no one will make that distinction. Same as how in baseball the HR record was 61 and not 60.
