Above college football discussion above very weird imo. Most CF fans didn’t go to any college, much less the one they favor. Ime the most fervent CF fans are often ambivalent to the very existence of public education. Similarly, if you actually graduated from college I would hope your fandom to be at least tempered - the whole affair is pretty distressing.
I think one factor explaining the rabid support of SEC teams by non-alum “sidewalk fans” is the lack of pro-sports teams in the south.
Also, if you were to plot teams’ success both on the field and financially I think it would correlate really well to support by non-alums. It has always stuck me as an odd thing to be against, unaffiliated randos supporting your football team and giving it more resources.
Checking out some of the other bowl games, there are some pretty On Brand match ups to be seen:
PUBG Mobile New Mexico Bowl
UTEP vs. Fresno State
Pretty good, but needed UCLA or UTSA instead of Fresno State
Cheez-It Bowl
Clemson vs. Iowa State
Not cheese its, unfortunately, but the combined school colors get us to just missing green from the multicolor goldfish:
Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl
UCF vs. Florida
Nice call reminding us about where some of the worst abuses in the 2008 mortgage crisis were.
Duke’s Mayo Bowl
North Carolina vs. South Carolina
But this one. This one right here is our winner for most on brand bowl game.
You just gotta love paying people a fraction of what they’re worth being referred to as an arms race.
So combined the entire O-Line will make 1/10th of what the head coach makes (and also probably a fraction of what the O-Line coach will make). Sounds like a good start, but still think there is a ways to go.
ETA: Reading a bit further about the Clark Collective deal makes it sound like the 100K may not be cash payments. Will leave the tweet up though it could be misleading. It will clear itself up in a day or less.
Also reading speculation on whether or not this violates the current NIL rules since deals are not allowed to be tied to a specific university.
The best part of all this is all the salty old white dudes angry that college athletes are now making more than them.
Evergreen:
maybe if he went to a better branded program it would have worked out differently.
MSU fans big time mad about KW3 not making it
lol
(also osu has a very good OL)
Please forgive me for losing my cool earlier. As a college dropout I’ve always had a chip on my shoulder and it’s ill of me to take it out on anyone here.
Also, what’s up with all the Bama fans on this board? Pretty ironic when you think about it.
No worries, man. I have the thickest of skins.
Just bama fans everywhere
What’s the irony
Yeah I don’t see how being an Alabama fan is ironic. Liking college sports at all is probably ironic but it’s not like we’re all Penn State fans. (Looks around furtively)
