so anyway, yesterday I was in the car driving home from the in-laws while the iron bowl was on. got home, saw the final score, though, “wow” and then fired up the DVR to watch.
I literally knew the outcome and was flipping the fuck out, if I had watched that game live I definitely 100% would have had a stroke.
Yeah was about to say Godfrey (and the split zone duo crew which I can’t recommend enough for national cfb coverage - their Patreon is solid) had said this was all but confirmed a few days ago
This would be a great season for an 8-team playoff.
(4) Oklahoma State vs (5) Ohio State
Winner gets to use “THE O_____ State University” for next season.
(3) Cincinnati vs (6) Alabama
The underdog goes against the most storied program of the decade.
(2) Michigan vs (7) Notre Dame
They’re not scheduled to play each other until 2033. That’s bullshit.
(1) Georiga vs (8) Nebraska
I’d put the Pac-12 champ here, but they’d just get blown out. Instead, have Georgia play the one team they can’t blow out. It would be an exciting game, with Georgia getting the go-ahead touchdown in the final minute.
I assume Lincoln Riley is an improvement over Helton and Sark, but he’s ultimately avoiding the challenge of the SECw to take on what should be the easiest place in the country to win at.
Maybe it’s just wishful thinking as an Oregon fan, but that has to say something about the guy.
The only pac 10 schools that were anywhere near their potential during the USC dominance era were Cal and Oregon State. Washington, Arizona and Stanford absolutely sucked. Oregon played like it really was true that all the recruits went there because of uniforms. WSU fell off the map after 2003. UCLA and ASU were their typical bad-to-average selves but with worse coaches.
Point being, USC should certainly be winning a lot more than four games, but the Pete Carroll era isn’t coming back any more than the John McKay pre-scholarship limit era is.
His players found out via social media so that’s pretty telling. It’s out in the ether that he didn’t approve of the move to the SEC so maybe that’s his justification.
I’ve seen a couple of headlines about it being Oregon’s worst nightmare but I’m not buying it.
