Thank god
shocked, shocked trafalgar wasn’t even close
Maybe not running a strong candidate for question 2 was actually the smart play.
sigh, only me still is watching b/c idk if fresno is gonna be yes or no in the end
and also if it is 20% or not
CNN calls it.
Seemed silly that no one but Wasserman had by this point. Like, even if you’re concerned about the in person vote, what do you think the turnout is going to be for this? 45%? If so, there aren’t enough votes outstanding for Newsome to lose, even if they’re 100% yes on the recall.
everyone’s being a bit careful on calling it these days
The Republican “strategy” here was to NOT endorse. They figured that more candidates for question 2 = more yes votes on question 1. Elder was the “grassroots” choice.
Mistakes were made.
Nah, I think that’s their best bet. The only non-incumbent Republican since Bush who’s done better than an imaginary Republican is Trump. Other Republicans, once they cease being imaginary and actually start being real candidates with positions on things, are way less appealing to people who don’t like Democrats.
The whole point is to get enough Dems and Indies to vote yes. That’s the first hurdle. If you don’t cross that nothing else matters.
Rs legit thought they could fool people with “You can vote for another Democrat!”. Dems did a great job of messaging that it’s Newsom or Elder.
Not sure if Arnie could run. But he probably would have won. I feel like there has to be some other high profile moderate R out there.
This thread is amazing

Especially this. It’s exactly what I’ve been saying about not pushing a backup. I’ve been arguing with Dems about this for months and hey guess what, the party was actually right this time. I was right.

You seem like you’re making the case for exactly why the Republicans shouldn’t endorse with your first two lines. I agree with all of that, and I bet skydiver does too.
In 2018, Newsom got 61.95% of the vote. “No” is currently at around 66% with 65% of the vote in.
Dems need to spin this as a single-issue election that was effectively a referendum on mask mandates and other COVID mitigation efforts. Maybe this will encourage Democratic politicians who live in less blue states that they’re not going to be losing votes because of masks and vaccines. I really do believe this might be the issue that can be used to overcome gerrymandering and voter suppression in 2022. Democrats need to lean into COVID as something that only effective government can truly solve.
Where do me and my 1.6 millioms friends go to pick up our 250 million dollars?
