2020 Post-Election Thread

True. I just think GA is the whole ballgame nationally if we turn it blue. VA and GA going from solid red to solid blue seems like a good trade for FL and OH going from swing to hard red.

Texas is fucked until the next redistricting unless the demographics get to a point where it can’t be anything but blue. 2020 was our big shot and we didn’t get there.

Instead of which, your guy backpedalled on M4A and the Green New Deal, and then they simply ran an ad where Trump called him a far-left socialist and then you lost. I don’t think the problem there is Dem messaging, the problem is that it’s a Republican district.

Not to be the pessimist but we’re likely gaining Georgia while losing PA & Wisconsin and maybe Michigan. Losing white working class union members is just devastating for the Democratic Party.

This is it really. It’s like chess. They just captured your knight which was guarded by a pawn. Trying to be moderate when they are calling you a communist is like declining the trade and letting the piece that captured your knight just leave in peace.

Yeah we absolutely can’t concede the blue wall, which is why I am such a massive Yang booster. We need candidates that can win, easily, up there. We simply can’t cede working class whites. It’s too big of a demo. It’s just math. I don’t care that the demographics are shifting, you have to squint pretty hard to see how we consistently win anything without at least tying the overall white vote, and it’s hard to see how we tie the white vote without doing a whole lot better with the working class whites. We physically can’t do better with the educated whites.

I always used to shred libertarians by making fun of the fact that they basically want a case of government that is good for well off white guys and nobody else. They had carved off everything anyone else got out of the social contract and called it waste, and seemed to think that everyone else would just agree to this.

Silly me it turns out the eDems are exactly like that as well. Except they want a version of progress that only helps upper middle class educated minorities (all types) be equal to upper middle class whites. Then they will spit upon the poors for their racism, their homophobia, and their lack of critical thinking skills (they send their kids to private school ldo). But props to them they have a version of a fair society that treats more people well so they are clearly very morally superior to the Republicans.

There was a right wing talking point that stuck to me like napalm a few years ago. Virtue signalling. I think it stuck to me like napalm because it was a direct fucking hit.

Unless Dems take Senate majority, LOL at Mitch doing anything but obstruction.

A nice dunk:

Pete: The simple reality is that President Trump has never had the majority support of the American people.

A nice closing message from Pete on Biden/Harris:

Whether in the last days of his presidency, he rises to the responsibility or not, we know this much. There is a strong will among the American people–even those who voted the other way going into this election–to make sure that we:

  1. Come together
  2. Tackle COVID
  3. Make the economy fair
  4. Ensure the wealthy pay their fair share in taxes
  5. Expand healthcare

In other words, exactly the agenda that got Joe Biden and Kamala Harris elected.

Mittens joins the show at 15:50.

I have a two-prong approach to doing this.

  1. A divisive message of class warfare meant to drive a wedge poorer whites from richer whites.
  2. A certain degree of tolerance for political differences between the white working class and ideological liberals, excluding racial issues.

Republicans are the biggest virtue signalers around because they have a highly superficial mindset. A lot can be written about the virtue signaling of conspicuous patriotism.

On that second point it might be a good idea for those white liberals to stop acting superior. They aren’t. They’re the lucky ones and they should check their fucking privilege and know it. If someone in the relationship should be doing the emotional labor it’s the side that sleeps on 3500 dollar mattresses while the other side worries about paying rent every day of their lives.

Mittens: If you look at the pickup the Republicans had in Congress and holding the Senate, the presidential race was more a matter of a referendum on a person. When it came to policy… I don’t think the American people want to sign up for Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, etc.

He has a point that House and Senate elections to some degree indicate voter preference for conservative principles, but Fox’s own chyrons are telling Mitch to STFU about policy. If Romney embraced M4A, the guy would sweep 2024.

My mom and stepdad are moderate Rs who would support stricter gun laws. Same for my cousin I think. It’s just way way down on their list of issues.

The 55% comes from where? Over 90% want federal background checks, which is the only gun policy pushed by Democrats across the board. Occasionally, after a few dozen people get massacred, you can rouse some Democrats to say something about limiting access to weapons of war. But they for the most part understand that gun owners like their murder toys too much to prevent tens of thousands of deaths per year.

That’s fantastic.

How the fuck can these people believe these things and still even watch FOX News?

lol at citing polls without realizing those are also the same error as the election.

Yeah… I believe marketing analytics about what people like about 10,000x more than I’ll ever trust another pollster. Fuck those people forever.

But here’s the thing, those issues all do great with the poor whites in the sample.

lol we were thinking that demographics were going to swamp the GOP in 10 years and now it seems like dems are going to be completely fucked in 10 years.

USA is just fucked when it comes to politics. Being able to block almost the entire agenda of the party that wins the election means people don’t trust any politician to do what they promise. Maybe democrats finally figured out the fuck you answer when it comes to norms. Stuff they should do:

  1. Do not defund ICE. Just fire all the ghouls and replace them with social workers and lawyers helping immigrants
  2. Use the military for infrastructure improvements. Just divert money to the corps of engineers and get them to hire mainly from swing states and then fix bridges and roads in those states.
  3. Give all DACA recipients a USA passport by executive order.
  4. Get the patent office to invalidate any gene related patent and threaten more of where that came from if they don’t come at the table for lower medicine prices.
  5. Get the DOJ to go after any police department not getting their shit in order. Fire anyone not willing to do this.
