eh… might check it out. I quit in TBC originally in ~2007 so never got to see any of this content. But TBC classic was pretty lame and the whole min max stuff really blows. Doubt it gets better.
my content right now is goin thru this heavily - I think the min maxers are in for a nasty nasty surprise this expansion and I am so here for it. its the absolute stupidest way to play the game at low levels/dad guilds.
It’s quite a fun time for me because I’m a geek and a raid tactician/planner in most of my guilds, no one has any fucking idea how blizz is gonna roll this out. the pservers sorta just guessed how things were in some of the logic and scaling and especially boss scripting - it could be a completely different game. I’m in several discords trying to drum up interest in my content and casual andy analysis, and theyre like 20 year old kids goin into waybackmachine trying to figure out how things were in 2009 or 2010 or whatever. feels a bit like obiwan kenobi trying to explain the clone wars to a bewildered luke skywalker. so funny
Whaaaaaaaaaasaaat???
You’ve got to be shitting me
I actually quit wow classic before the plandemic, played with our boy josh in a gud guild and every thang but got super bored with it but then hit a wall. Then started grad school and had no time. Missed all of TBC. But I’ll totally re up for wrath
I’m preparing on faerlina for WOTLK. Started up a DK and a druid on Warmane private server, but already bis’d myself out from phase 1 so am waiting for Ulduar phase to play heavily again.
Having fun so far. Some guild drama happened and I got scammed for a ton of gold and $$$. Oh well. Now I’m alone and building out my alt roster. First order of business is getting my paladin to 70 so I can boost alts on my main account, and from there, get a pally on that account so I can boost alts on the secondary account. In the meantime, join GDKP’s to get gold so I can start building out all my professions - this is gonna be a bit rough, I did a 3 hour kara last night as the primary healer carry and I only made 400g. Ugh. My gear isn’t quite sexy enough to sell myself to the “good” GDKP’s yet either so I am a bit stuck. I have big plans on how to break the server’s economy when WOTLK comes out, but I need a good amount of scratch to get there first.
Stuff I’d definitely do right now -
- engineering mats. holy fuck. snatch anything up used for leveling engineering. Engineering is raid bis on every single class in WOTLK AINEC.
- herbs. save em all.
- get as many max level alts as you can and as many professions as you can.
It’s a toss up whether I will main blood DK in wrath. Phase 1, DK tanking is a bit rough, so I may just get one to level 80 and raid on my druid (gonna be resto almost certainly) til ulduar. We’ll see. I am in love with DK though.
im on the alternate roster in a pretty competitive swp guild now on the druid and every sunday the guild update is:
“Muru monday.” Have yet to see if they got him yet or not lol.
yeah due to vacations and release timing my guild has done 2 attempts on Muru so far… but i’m not optimistic.
are weakest/least attentive to detail players are our healers which has really become apparent in swp.
eta- we did get both tk/ssc pre nerf, so maybe if we get some good luck runs we’ll get swp pre nerf.
Yea I think I understand that. I’ve not really studied SWP too much yet, no desire to really enter there (I mostly spend my time helping guildies run heroics and stuff, and do the t4/t5 content occasionally with them, which I think is the only reason they have me here) but I can see why healers would be slackers at this phase. I don’t think they really saw a true healing challenge in all of p3/p4. P2 was rough on healing - I was our healer carry in the pre-nerf ssc/tk and oh my fucking god a few of those fights were rough.
gz on getting ssc/tk down pre-nerf tho. I did a video rant that added this factoid in it somewhere, but I read that only 50% of logging guilds managed to go 10/10 in SSC/TK AFTER the nerfs. we only just barely got it at the very end of the phase. That’s frickin nuts to me. I have a big regret that I didn’t jump ship much earlier with this fail guild i was in. the leadership was clueless, never listened to me except when they got desperate, and the moment they listened everything would be fine, but then next time it was like I didn’t exist again and I’d have no input, rinse/repeat.
classic example. first or second week SSC, we are battering ourselves on the mushroom packs before Leo. I had actually read a bit about the dungeon beforehand, and knew a lot of the mobs could be CC’d. For whatever reason we weren’t (hilariously, later on, we discovered these packs can be easily skipped altogether) and wiped at least 8 or 9 times in a row, each time me gently trying to say “hey what about sheeping them?” until finally I lost my cool a bit and was like “i certainly hope you guys realize these can be sheeped, right?” which they didn’t and then we go through it.
tons of stuff like that. lol. we were progressing through BT and there are so many moron checks in the hyjal/BT boss fights that we were just failing abysmally and for practically no reason and I just couldn’t take it anymore.
in WOTLK I decided to make my own guild/raid and lead it how I want to, I’m never going through what I went through again with this miserable expansion.
yeah it can be rough if people aren’t willing/knowing to look up the details on a SOLVED game… our raid lead is super solid, always has the excel spreadsheets with all the abilities of every mob and the assignments done before the next tier comes out, it’s updated every week with tank/cc/heal assignments, and we still can’t get everyone to even open the damn thing…
last night on our first muru attempt 9 people had the spreadsheet open… it will make you want to pull your hair out. we previously struggled a bit on eredar twins which is just about spam healing and managing your own debuff stacks/ similar to just the marks part of 4 horseman in naxx… and eventually the lead was like, “look guys i can’t tell you when you individually have too many fire or shadow stacks. im sorry, you have to do that on your own…”
our guild does the whole “semi-hardcore” advertisement but we’re mostly dad-guild. our server isn’t one of the mega’s(only like 4k raiders on ours), but we finished BT at like the 6th fastest clear on our server.
that’s actually crazy impressive, i’ve only been in those types of guilds and they are always a disaster. i feel that so hard. by P3 I was main tanking on bear so by default I’d finally be allowed to make calls in raid - on that one guy in hyjal that blows you up if he mana burns you to 0, so you need to remain at 3k mana - I’d seriously be sitting there spamming my 2 button rotation telling people when to stop casting and it’d go like this:
“tilde, please stop casting, you have 3500 mana”
keeps casting
“you’re getting pretty close to 3k mana, please stop casting”
keeps casting
“ok everyone get away from tilde he’s going to blow up soon”
one or two people move
wipe
“… I dont know how much more clear I can be on what needs to happen here guys”
extra infuriating as a tank because some of those trash pulls in early P3 in Hyjal were total tank pulls - 6 aboms, 3 tanks, the paladin sucks them in and as a bear I’d have to try to grab at least 2 of them from him with snap threat on one guy and a taunt on the other or he’d just die. if i fuck up once it’s a wipe pretty much. Having to do all the trash packs over over something like that was beyond infuriating.
interesting. i didn’t know the threat mechanic on shadow nova.
we’ve had really bad luck with one sacrolash tank getting conflag’d and the other sacrolash tank getting confounded within 2 seconds of each other, which caused a bunch of wipes. but we’re ~mostly solid on it now.
most of what slowed our progress was the fact that we raid on mon/tuesday, so week “one” we got kalecgos down and some brut attempts, then week two we had a moderate sized group of the irl friends on vacation and managed to get through brut and felmyst, week “three” was memorial day i think(?) and no one was around. just dad-guild type stuff… lol. so we just haven’t worked on it passed felmyst much.
hah good luck convincing delusional semi-hardcore dad raiders that they gotta sacrifice their blue parse for the raid, been there my friend (not implying slighted your guild is that, I just have seen this convo play out in my own guilds)
I’ve learned now “semi hardcore” tends to mean “we want to be in a competitive raid but are not willing to put forth even the most bare minimum effort to get that so plz carry us” and it’s got like 3-5 guys doing 90% of the work/carrying. seen it so so so many times now. I dont want to make a sweaty guild but semi-hardcore just seems to draw this very particular type of player I cannot stand.
yeah we had that exact discussion in hyjal for archimonde. lol. no one wants to remove the on use ap/sp trinket to save themselves a potential death that may not even target them.
tbf, i never put on my pvp trinket for archimonde, which we actually 1 shot somehow on both ptr and progression… but i’m the enhance, so i can guarantee im on the tremor totem and its pulsing at the time i need it to.
I think that WOTLK is gonna throw the parsing community for a loop. The game, IMO, is not friendly to parsing at all and I think most parse strats, unless the content is nerfed/not tuned at all, are gonna fall flat. At least I hope, anyway, I hate this parsing shit, it’s impossibly dumb. On warmane and serious class theorycraft discords, they generally mock parse-brains pretty relentlessly, but for whatever reason, classic is obsessed with it.
that’s significantly higher than me, bro. i capped out that phase at like 92ish best avg. on my enhance. but in my defense i was brand new to shaman at the start of the phase after rerolling. not in my defense- i’m in the “pump” melee group so it should definitely be higher…
and it’s not like my group isn’t capable of sky high parses… our raid leader rogue best parse average was a 97.8… and thats with an 84 council parse because he’s on kick duty and never got to pump… lol
yeah i have two accounts, so i dungeon boosted my own ally shaman with my prot paladin when we realized we needed another enhance shaman for the raid comp.
as of right now i think i’m going to roll rogue in wotlk and do silly parse shit with my buddy like tricks of the trading each other… but since im the person with the most alts and the ability to boost myself either through paladin or mage boosts there’s always the chance i end up having to be the unholy dk.
