Aren’t there gym bros out there cherry picking the most tame ones to make all women look bad? Like their content angle is to say that yes, sure, women experience harassment at the gym, but this is just women acting as bait for attention. Getting a weird “falsely calling me racist is worse than racism” vibe from these dudes.
Maybe. The problem isn’t acknowledging the existence of other humans visually, it’s creeps being creeps. So just don’t be a weirdo and it’s all good
Like nobody expects you to literally avert thy gaze when encountering an attractive woman in any setting is all I’m saying
Moist Critical had a video on this the other day
It seems like a few TikTok-ers are just making these videos for clicks without any actual creepy behavior happening, which does a disservice to people who are actually being creeped on
FWIW - I just posted that meme to show an example of the outfit, which was actually tame compared to some of them at my gym. I don’t agree any premise that the majority of women make it up or anything like that. That wasn’t my point.
yes obviously dont be creepy, but there’s pretty clearly a subset of people that are labeling literally everything as being creepy.
here’s a female dating influencer take on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zWuOIQHGA0 - she generally has pretty good content.
I just feel sorry for women who don’t live near a women’s only gym
Gotta farm that engagement
Some of this is going to come down to gym’s culture as well. My gym is right in the center of the financial district and the members are basically all lawyers and investment people just trying to get their workout in before/after work or between meetings. People are friendly but it’s very business like. I’ve been a member for 15+ years now and the number of women I’ve seen that were “obviously” seeking attention by wearing provocative clothes is exactly zero.
A club full of 20-something singles in a trendy neighborhood might be something different. Or it might not be, I’ll never know because I avoid trendy 20 year olds like the plague.
Are these a thing? The only one I’m familiar with is Curves. My impression is that is not really a place where anyone who is serious about lifting would go. I’d actually feel sorry for someone who was forced to go there.
Dafuq are you doing going to a gym? I thought you had a sweet set up at home.
Once I got my home gym set up I almost never went to an outside gym. The only time I might is when I travel. And I’m pretty much never motivated enough to find one, so it happens very rarely.
The last time I went, I might have been staring a bit because literally every woman and some of the men were doing those hip thrusts and it was an exercise I had never seen before. My staring was more or less “WTF is that?”. I guess they are all the rage now.
I have a set up at home too. But I work out harder at the gym for some reason, and I like the 2 mile walk each way.
Cmon man that post is still some victim-blaming bullshit that was tweeted by a misogynist asshole.
Yeah, but you’re the weirdo that would eschew working from home full time or even a job that would pay you to sit on your ass all day. So, that seems about right.
But we’ve all got our weirdness. I’d rather just work out in solitude and then walk 4 miles on my treadmill watching TV if I felt I needed that. And I probably did work out harder with others around too. I absolutely took less rest between sets so I wasn’t hogging the equipment. Resting too long is a huge leak in my current regimen.
Two gyms ago I used to chat up the various trainers on staff because I was there so often and knew them all. One of those trainers was, uh, borderline crazy (my gut read): late 30s / early 40s single woman, rail thin, extremely Christian, somewhat grating personality. I went to this place for many years, and fairly early on she asked me out…to Thursday night Bible study. When I politely declined, she jokingly brushed it off saying “oh, you must be Jewish,” which oh_wow.gif but I had a good laugh considering I’m atheist.
She laid off the Bible dates part and we remained friendly enough for many years after. There were a few weird incidents but whatever, I kind of felt sorry for her. However, the gym closed in either 2018 or 2019, and somewhere toward the end she mentions another gym member by name, and I have no clue who she’s talking about and say as much. She nonchalantly says, “oh, she’s the nurse who used to ask about you.” Of course now I’m slowly realizing that she’s actually insane with a grudge and playing the end of a long game.
That description still didn’t narrow it down, so I ask for additional details and the girl she’s talking about was a young blonde smokeshow that would come on Saturdays in yoga pants that were painted on to squat and deadlift. I don’t think we ever did more than exchange pleasantries, but she did indeed talk to this trainer quite a bit. I can only imagine what this psycho told her (gay, wife beater, child molester?).
That’s a pretty bad beat.
If it makes you feel better, nearly all the gym spawned relationships I’m aware of are either of an “arrangement” type or one or both parties ends up cheating (with someone else at the gym).
But, then again, maybe it could have worked for you.
Lol that sucks.
I had completely forgotten about it until reading this thread about 30 minutes ago and retriggering myself.
I think they now say, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t make.
I try to intersperse staring at some dudes to balance my staring range.
Also depends on what one defines as staring. Three seconds of sustained focus would be my threshold.
