#Heardle #9
Anyone played this yet? My first day was a huge whiff, but that’s not the reason that I think it won’t catch on.

I don’t listen to enough music to get those right regularly.
I’ve played it twice and I think it’s pretty fun. I’d say the first two songs I did were relatively well-known without being too easy, but it could be either a trivially simple game or frustratingly hard depending on the database they are pulling from.

I solved Semantle #36 in 159 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.92. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #12. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 52.26 (995/1000). https://semantle.novalis.org/
After 153 guesses and five minutes remaining, I didn’t have a single guess in the top 100. Five of my next six guesses were all in the top 100 and I got it with two minutes to spare
Only just discovered instant nerdle. This one is clearly the best nerdle, imo.
It’s not really failable, but the goal/brag is to solve it in as little time as possible.

This is a pretty shit time, of course. I didn’t even notice the timer and I was reading some emails while solving it. But now that I know it is there, I’ll actually go for speed.

So I don’t usually post practice games because you’re bound to have some weird results if you play multiple games a day. But this is ridiculous. Initial guess was irate. I then got insanely lucky on the next two words. Third word was pretty much guaranteed and then stupid lucky on fourth word

I played Heardle yesterday and got it in 2, skipping my first guess because it would not accept the one song I could think would fit. Today, I just didn’t know the song. And even if I got to hear the whole song from the beginning, I could get the artist, and then would be stuck guessing from valid guesses of his songs that weren’t the ones that I knew. The weakness of this game is that people will get frustrated when they just don’t know the song, in contrast with a game based around answers that almost every English speaker knows. People like to play games that they think are challenging and that they think they can win. This one, I think too many people will get frustrated when they fail a few times when they know that they had no shot due to never having heard the song before for it to really be a thing.
