Missed wordle for the first time ever today. It’s a word where you can have 4 out 5 locked in and there’s still a ton of possible words. I went 0/4 with four letters locked in.

I just did one octordle and that when I decided I’m spending too much time on Xdles.
I think that the optimal hard mode strategy is not intuitive because of this exact problem. You have to try some less common letters up top so you don’t get locked in too quickly.
I’d really love for some one to take a crack at an optimal hard mode solution like those vids that were posted for the general solution.
Of course, it would depend on how you define optimal (i.e. never fail vs lowest average vs other).

Yeah, hard mode is just a bad game. To actually play it well, you need to blacklist words that get you into this situation from early guesses. More generally, you want to avoid guessing too many common letters early, because getting a letter early isn’t that good, especially if you lock it. Eliminations are better, so you likely want to focus on mid-frequency letters early on.
Or just don’t play hard mode so you can do this:

Today was a good day to open with nymph, knocked out two possibilities for one guess.
Was at 886/1000 with my 31st guess and now on 119 with nothing closer. Really think it should just be capped at 100 or something.
