Lol I had the exact same but lucked out on 5.
It wasn’t nate, but 538 was solving the question of what first word to use in a strategy that will minimize the expected number of possible answers left after 2 guesses. The 2nd words they map out after TRACE won’t all work in hard mode, and even those that do could leave you with a loss for *IGHT, *OLLY, maybe others (just a couple counter examples I worked through). So it’s not even solving easy wordle, although tbf there’s no single definition of solving the game. Your goal could be never losing, minimizing your average score, maximizing your brag days (wins in <=3 probably). 538 solves one of those definitions on easy mode.
