I opened with a string of 6 zeros on redactle which is easily my worst start ever, then had a lucky-ish find that pivoted me right to the correct subject and wound up finishing in 12.
Happened to guess “years” and saw the suspicious ____- in front of it, then went with “galaxy” as my next guess.
Yeah, that is how I got a hold, too. The other word in the title was infuriating, though.
To be fair, with this one (done similar things with past ones), I did some googling to figure out at least the possibilities for the first word so as to minimize or eliminate extra guesses. I have no idea if this is considered “fair” or not, but I’m on a discord server where a few of us are rabidly competing with each other every day on these, and the consensus there is that everything is fair game.
I feel like it almost has to be considered acceptable, because sometimes a google search just for the purposes of researching a term will bring up something that spoils the answer. A couple of weeks ago the article was “1989 Tiananmen Square Protests and Massacre”, and I had to google just to figure out how the hell to spell Tiananmen. Literally the second result was the exact wiki article which saved me plenty of trial and error in figuring out the last few words.

Alright, eventually the redactle came up, and I got it in 42
WAT? Your buddies have some weird preferences. I’d consider googling anything to be “cheating” (obviously if you all agree to it, then it’s fine, but you know what I mean). Being able to research terms reduces the difficulty of the puzzle. If you don’t know how to spell something, then that’s a weakness you’ve got to work with.
Eh, I’m not so sure about that. Again I haven’t been doing this from day one so I’m not sure how often they come up, but there are definitely some articles in there that aren’t insanely common knowledge. I feel like it would be super unfair to expect someone to just know whether they’re supposed to give up, or to keep going for a thousand guesses only to find out the article is some term or person or place they’ve literally never heard of.
Case in point, a couple of weeks ago the article was “Epithelium”. OK I’ve heard the word but I couldn’t tell you exactly what it is, and I only got it after filling in the part of the first sentence that said “…along with connective tissue, muscle tissue and nervous tissue” and getting to google what the hell the other type of tissue is.
I’m of the view that it’s a game, not an intelligence test, so it’s fine to use whatever tools you have.
Yeah that’s what you’re supposed to do. One of those things. Not google. At least that is how I see it. Admittedly, I’m purist in such matters.
I’m curious how others see redactle. Does everyone else google stuff? Am I that weird?
Obviously if everyone in your competition agrees, then it’s fine to do whatever.
I just feel like if that’s what you’re “supposed to do”, then the game should end after X guesses like Wordle and say “here’s the answer dumbass”. Anyway I respect the purist attitude but I’m not sure it’s the intended way to play.
I guess we could think of it like the difference between wordle on regular vs hard mode.

Think the first word was yesterday. If the site doesn’t refresh properly you’re playing a previous puzzle and not know it. Happens often on my phone and have lost streaks bc of it
