Sounded like Matt was gonna orgasm when Will talked about coronavirus spreading around CPAC and AIPAC

I put Ubuntu on my dad’s computer and it’s going well so far.

Lol I’ve spent 5+ hours on my Dad just trying to explain copy and paste and we still had a ways to go. Sadly that was so long ago I feel we’d have to start over now.

I will have to get the speech all over again about how he’s a right-brained poet and not a left-brained tech wizard like me (even though I’m asking him to do the computer equivalent of a jack and jill poem). Tension will rise. 30 minutes is about the max either of us can take.

That’s probably worse than my dad but not by a lot. I did put Teamviewer on his end set to run on startup so whenever he has trouble I can jump on without him having to do anything. With a permanent password on my end.

My dad once got one of those “you have a virus problem, click here to scan your computer” viruses, which run a “scan” and “finds” a bunch of viruses and then tries to get your CC or other personal info to scam you.

Anyway, he was smart enough to call me and I went over his house to help. It was one of those real PITA viruses that prevents even downloading scanners and removal tools, so I had to boot into safe mode and do a bunch of work to even get a virus scanner running.

Finally after like an hour I scan his machine and find like 5 problems. My dad says,“your thing only found 5 problems, that one that I used found 67.”

Retrieve laptop and replace with tablet.

My mother in law has bricked multiple tablets. I suggested they get an Apple first because I thought the walled garden would protect her. Nope. After going through a few of those we went with Kindle Fires so if she ruins them they’re only 60 to 100 bucks. Boomers can destroy any technology or fall for any scam involving technology later than 1990.

Fewer moving parts on a tablet for them to pull off or ruin with hot drinks.

That would involve learning a new piece of technology - which would depress and terrify him.

Meanwhile my ex’s 86-year-old mother taught herself how to edit video and is pretty good at it. Chinese know how to grow old.

I love twitter. I use it for all my hobbies. I snap block anyone who posts anything political. It is therefore almost completely apolitical.

Political discussion belongs here among rational intelligent people. Not on twitter with free-range trumpkins roaming the fields.

My Twitter feed is composed of political commentators as smart as the people here. It’s an invaluable aggregator of you want it to be.

My brother got my dad into computer’s, everything was cool until the young cousin’s and his young brother started calling him behind the times and started WWIII

He closer to 70 now and still loves to plays games on a Friday night into the small hours while he monitors a call line, its his fun and he loves it.

If I’m up on a Saturday morning which I rarely do, my mother will be telling me this for the umpteenth time. :unamused:

He currently trades online and upgrades his Comp to the latest graphics card and accessories, and is on more forums than me.

Between Biden, Dems, olds, Coronavirus, the 4 cars on my commute that were driving without lights, and the dude yesterday that threw a plastic water bottle out of his car, I’m feeling pretty fucking jaded with humanity righty now.

So, you’re saying coronavirus is too incrementalist like Elizabeth Warren, and you want the giant meteor which will be direct and forceful like Bernie Sanders?

I don’t even know how to respond to this…
