There are always alternatives.

Let’s see if I can put this in terms you can understand. Imagine you** discover one of your subordinates to be a nazi. He literally thinks all Jews should be exterminated. He spends his free time organizing other like minded folks to start a grassroots movement.

However, when he is on the job his work is technically excellent. In fact he is among the most productive employees you’ve got. All of his responsibilities at this point require interactions with only two other people in the organization, neither of whom are Jewish.

Do you

A) Try to make sure he doesn’t have to interact with any Jewish people
B) Fire him
C) Other (if so, what)

** I don’t know if you’re Jewish, but assume you aren’t for the purposes of this question.

Because some people don’t like ■■■■■ and assholes, and also because calling them out on their ■■■■■■■ and assholery might make the world a better place.

Edit: Yeah, I’m a real Shakespeare…

Why? After all, “firing him would do more harm to him and to the project than keeping him and working around”

Well we’ve finally established that Lapka is ok with most bigots but not the ones that push her own personal buttons.

Well even addressing it with him and making him uncomfortable is certainly not going to be good for the project if this guy is such a stellar employee. It sounded like you placed a great deal of importance on that.

Also, call me crazy, but being fired for being a Nazi is a lot more “social pressure” than whatever it is you would be doing.

Yeah, all this.

Can’t imagine being confused as to why I’d want a bigot to not work with me and represent my agency, lol. Especially in this capacity.

You could still be facebook friends.
