Maybe itâs better to think of it as âthe exception that reinforces the general ruleâ. Example:
General Rule: Members of Congress are very bad at Twitter.
Exception: AOC
The exception doesnât âproveâ the rule so much as make you realize just how true in general it is.
Similarly, Romneyâs principled stand on the impeachment vote âproves the ruleâ that Republicans are generally corrupt and soulless pieces of shit.

In my experience, the thing is that a lot of people are trained not to acknowledge theyâre upset. They wonât even admit it to themselves. They can BE as upset as they like, as long as theyâre civil (LOL?!). So that trick gets a lot of people to backpedal before they even realize what theyâre doing.
Good for Fortenbaugh to say yeah, Iâm upset, because your views are âEXTRAORDINARILY OFFENSIVE.â
