For me, the whole “wow there are a lot of really bad things happening around me” piece of it got a whole lot easier after 2016. My default level of disgust, rage and sadness is now a 10/10 so it doesn’t make my life worse.

The most notable characteristic of Vegas isn’t the degeneracy or the casinos, it’s the fact that the city is completely overrun by tourists of a very specific type. Namely, people who never travel anywhere else. It is very weird.

Me too, but I apply this sentiment to the whole of the USA. (Sorry USAians)
The puritanical tone of some of these anti-Vegas takes is pretty weird. Gambling, drinking, good food and even some degeneracy are perfectly healthy from time to time. Like all things, moderation.
(Although I don’t actually drink much, even in Vegas).

That’s the point though. Vegas doesn’t offer these things in moderation. Vegas cranks these things up to eleven and blasts them at you from all sides ever minute of every day. You have to actively work to find a relaxing environment.
Amping those up to 11 once or twice a year is moderation!

Degenerate gambling is never in moderation, by definition.
There’s nothing remotely amusing about coming down for breakfast there and seeing the hard-up shoving coins into one-armed bandits as fast as they can.
And there’s nothing remotely puritanical about finding that horrible.
