At age 16, were you unaware of the magical elixir known as vodka?
Wait, I thought the black & tans was a joke, they really have a stout named that, jeez…
Tell him he’s right, No way should any decent Irish American drink that rubbish pish/drain water.
Advise on its Guinness or nothing, there is no substitute.
They have a very nice stout and some nice lagers but combining them would be garbage for obvious reasons. This is like ordering a whiskey and coke with top-shelf whiskey.
Was that a real Irish pub or a standard American bar with a cheesy Irish name?
Do you not like to walk on the “Harp Side”?
Traditionally it is Harp and Guinness, but lately some big companies have been selling premixed onesthat sound horrible.
Was this adult-supervised? In America, the school letting 16-year olds have a drink in a bar would get teachers fired.
I assume the latter, since I saw POC in there.
Come out ye black and tans, come out and fight me like a man
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flaaaanders
so Black and Tan seems gross, is it the boomer/gen x [edited for euro friends - Jager into Guinness] or jagerbomb?
Can’t believe I used to drink that shit tbh. College!
I thought Bass was the traditional pale ale to be used in a black and tan.
Paddy O’Houllihans is a real Irish pub man! Its just run by a Korean Irishman.
You’re probably correct.
I used to drink them, but I’m not sure how much of that was me trying to look cool in my early 20s. My understanding was that black and tan was with Bass and a half and half was with Harp.
I do remember enjoying a half stout half cider drink that was sometimes called a snakebite and other times a black velvet.
I think this is why I was a bit confused with the Black & tans and the mentions of Harp, it was Bass that was used in Scotland and we called it something else too, but knew it also a B&T.
Yes, we drunk those too, our B&T was called diesel.
Not sure if hot take: Guinness is bad, is a diet beer, and has an undeserved reputation as good.
The same as today. At 16 you are allowed to buy or consume beer, wine or sparkling wine. You need to be 18 to buy or consume distilled spirits.
I am not sure how old you are exactly, but if this was around twenty years ago, things were a lot more relaxed back then.
When I was 16 I had a mixed drink (might even have been Bacardi, but I suspect Campari & orange juice) on a plane from Vancouver to Frankfurt while on a school trip. Our teacher allowed us one drink „to be able to sleep on the plane“. That was in 1993 and the flight attendants gave us the drinks. Think it wasLufthansa, but I am not sure what drinking age is legally enforceable above the Atlantic.
