OK, replace “actual progressives” with “black people”. I obviously cannot speak for black people, but given the fact that their ancestors actually WERE imported from some African nation, I think it would be reasonable to think that it’s going to be hard for them to get excited about Biden when he says - and very obviously thinks - these things. But without looking I bet Biden has the most African-American support among Democratic hopefuls, and I know nothing about anything anymore, so.
Oh, I fully agree that it is good reason for progressives/African Americans/plenty of others to not be too excited about Biden. However, if the choice is Biden or Trump and they don’t vote Biden, they’re basically cutting of their nose to spite their face, which is stupid. About as stupid as Biden saying that stuff.
With Hillary she was self-serving, power hungry greedy, dishonest, war mongering, and police stating, but at least you could say she wasn’t a moron. With Biden you got nothing.
I could not imagine ever being able to convince someone to change from Trump to Biden. Best I got for Trump voters would be “they both suck, how about just staying home?”
Joke is on everybody, now we all have to listen to the full context of Sleepy Joe’s addled forays into European jurisprudence to make sure we’re not getting taken for a ride by an anonymous twitter account
biden proposes a moonshot to cure cancer. it’s a great fuckin idea, the gvt is the entire source of fundamental research funding, it’s something like 98%, so increases in the nih budget can directly increase our research output. and politically it’s great because everybody wants to live and be healthy.
trump, hearing this idea over a year in advance of the election, chooses to do nothing. in fact he proposed cutting NIH and NSF funding. nih is like 400 billion/10years.
i’m an optimist and i think joe biden has the potential to summon LBJ and talk to all the republican friends he’s cordial with and say, “look, if we do it bipartisan, we all get the credit, we’re all in the photos smiling, i promise to go along with everything george w bush was doing. otherwise we’re only gonna quadruple our research budget and put it on the deficit and good luck campaigning against investing to cure cancer.” that’s frankly a lot better than trump term 2. it’s not a little better, it’s a lot better.
if you want to play the long game of making america shitty on purpose to agitate the working class into a people’s revolution, i love the dedication, but we could definitely cure cancer and trump’s not gonna do it. there’s no small chance that trump uses his political clout to push a bipartisan anything. he could pick a piece of the green new deal plan today, like trains, and say “hey, america is gonna make trains better than anywhere in the world” and just do a democrat plan and 20 republican senators at least will go along with it, he’d get very little blowback from the right wing and tons of praise from the center including all media except jacobin who will write an editorial about how it sucks that the trains aren’t totally free for everyone.
This times a billion. Biden isn’t anyone’s guy on this board, but I’ll be very pleased to see him sworn in next January if that’s my option other than Florida Man.
Seems that way, but honestly it’s a ridiculous way to word that because saying our culture our culture our culture over and over again and then strongly implying that “our culture” is NOT the culture of African and Asian immigrants is absurd.
Even in context that statement has issues.
My favorite part about this is how the entire national media went positively apoplectic trying to get everyone to realize this was taken out of context, yelling at other people on twitter to take down posts about this, etc. There is ZERO percent chance they do this when some inevitable bullshit comes out about Bernie.
