Letās do a campaign to get Trump to say ālitā.
Provides good usernames tho ldo
YES!
Wait, you mean if I get caught cheating to save $100M I get fined $2M? Oh, please no, whatever you do, donāt make that the law! Aw man ya got meā¦
Thereās a reason 14% of my rants are about impunity. Itās really toxic. Nixon should have gone to jail. The country would be a different place if he had.
I think thereās an argument to be made for not putting ex presidents in jail. Putting them in jail would tend to lead to non peaceful transfers of power.
Iām not old enough to remember Nixon although Iāve read a lot about it Watergate. Not sure if I feel he deserved jail more than the recent Wall Street execs of 2008 who got bailed out and allowed to carry on. Oh, and not to mention Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and all the rest of the war criminals who are still free and living dream
Bullshit. It would result in Presidents sincerely caring if they were violating the law or not. They are not above the law. Them thinking that they are is whatās causing these problems.
Weāve allowed the Presidency to have much too much power, and the problems with that are now extremely obvious. There need to be more checks and balances on the president not fewer in 2019. This Imperial presidency bullshit needs to stop.
Similar thing. Basically powerful people in this country think (correctly) that they are above the law. They need to be at least as subject to the law as everyone else, but preferably more so. I think criminal penalties should scale up not down. If youāre one of the highest ranking people in society and you defraud a bunch of people I think that should carry a life sentence.
Why?
Because you had everything a person could ask for and you decided to do something awful anyway. Youāre a much bigger threat to your fellow citizens than some guy who held up a liquor store. He was probably desperate and in real need. The rich guy did it because he felt like he could get away with it.
Also these crimes at the highest levels have a tendency to have massively more real world impacts than any normal person could ever have. That serial killer they caught recently didnāt get to 100 dead people. Purdue marketed Oxycontin and right now their choices are killing more people in a 48 hour period than that serial killer did in a lifetime.
I also think that people with a lot to lose respond very well to possible risks, so the deterrent effect from draconian punishments would be considerable. Iām not generally a death penalty supporter, but I think I could be persuaded to make it allowed for people with a net worth >10M dollars.
A top aide to Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer in Iowa has privately offered campaign contributions to local politicians in exchange for endorsing his White House bid, according to multiple people with direct knowledge of the conversations.
The overtures from Pat Murphy, a former state House speaker who is serving as a top adviser on Steyerās Iowa campaign, arenāt illegal ā though payments for endorsements would violate campaign finance laws if not disclosed. Thereās no evidence that any Iowans accepted the offer or received contributions from Steyerās campaign as compensation for their backing.
Kick him out of the primary ffs.
This is Sidney Purcell level stuff in the last season of Veep with Richard Splett.
What a stupid air bluff. Everyone in those conversations knows heās going to donate the max to every single Democratic candidate in the entire country at every level basically. Thatās what mega donors like him do.

Magery has been letting out a lot of pent up anger since the Deadspin stuff. I love it.

Fuck off, Mike.
I love it, Bloomberg entering is a DISASTER for Pete and Biden
I donāt know about āDISASTERā in all caps, but I see your point. Heās not going to be taking any votes from Bernie or Warren.
