F that. Pete was literally ripping off GOP / Health Insurance Lobby talking points. Fuck him.
If dems donât get the senate by 2+ votes AND kill the filibuster, which is under a 10% prospect, then there will be NO significant action on healthcare. Youâre calling someone a sellout for saying that there arenât soda pop rivers in the land of make believe when heâs on board with the cotton candy bushes and gumdrop rocks.
He attacked single payer by asking how we were going to pay for it⌠even though it costs 1T a year less overall than what weâre doing now. Thatâs a healthcare lobby message and he recently took a lot of their money. Itâs not subtle unfortunately.
Now Warren is busy trying to figure out how to craft a message that doesnât get every single middle class or richer voter in the country to clutch their pearls about their taxes increasing (which they will⌠although obviously itâs impossible for that tax increase to be as much as they are paying now in lost comp or insurance premiums).
Youâre right that Pete is trying to take Bidenâs lane. I donât care. Biden is a corporate shill who sold his soul decades ago. Thatâs the lane Pete is trying to occupy.
There are plenty of legitimate ways to attack Warren. Her wealth tax is bullshit, wouldnât work, and probably isnât constitutional. It would most assuredly be tied up in court until 2024 even if it passed within a week of her being elected⌠and thatâs just the first thing like that I can find off the top of my head. Sheâs got a lot of plans, most of which will never ever get done. The less well thought out ones are pretty laughable.
Single payer on the other hand is something where the national message NEEDS to be just single payer. Itâs the solution that we will inevitably get to and we need to get there as quickly as feasible. Undermining that message is not OK. Thereâs literally no situation where attacking it on cost isnât just outright lying. If you want to attack it you say that it canât get done in Congress right now, which is true. You donât say that itâll cost too much because that message is pure propaganda delivered directly by the crooks who benefit from it.
If the forum does move toward official podcasts, tweet threads, blog posts, and beyond, I hope you will consider contributing. Youâre incredibly well spoken and often offer ideas that make me think through a topic in a new way.
If the POTUS doesnât literally break arms to get rid of the filibuster Iâd pretty much prefer another Trump term. Heâs a fever the country is running to make things extremely uncomfortable for the status quo. The fever doesnât need to break before the underlying disease is at least in remission. The filibuster is a core cause of the disease and must go immediately after the election.
Not getting rid of the filibuster makes zero political sense for the Dems and is straight up complicity. Thereâs no possible excuse for allowing it to continue to exist.
Surely one of you fools is in NY and can attend this rally. The rest of us want to live vicariously through you.
AOC at 1:32, around 1:40 talking about Bernie
Hate to say it, but I have an unnatural and unreasonable hatred for cheering, then trying to cheer even louder when someone says, âI said⌠whatâs up New York City!!!â I gave you the enthusiasm I feel you deserve the first time, and begging me to be even more enthusiastic pisses me right the fuck off.
Between this and using + instead of & in her tweets, AOC is close to getting canceled.
Nevermind. She trolled the GOP with her haircut, so Iâm back on the train.
Oof Tulsi. I would love for this to be a conspiracy theory but youâre not making that easy to believe.
I absolutely adore the assumption on this forum that there is no possible way that any reasonable or smart person could ever be for something like a public option instead of Bernieâs bill without being influenced by some nefarious outside party. Like, if you arenât for the complete destruction of a trillion dollar industry and the obliteration of hundreds of thousands of jobs in four years, then you are a terrible person or a corporate sellout.
AFAIK Shifty Pete has been for public option for a long time. He has starting get heat recently, and especially on October 15, 2019, because previously his position was that Single Payer was great in theory and the eventual goal but public option was more feasible. Now he is saying that he is against Single Payer because it would be too expensive.
That shift by Shifty Pete, rather than the strawman you just demolished, is what has made people extremely upset.
Thatâs all true, though. Look at every other country with running water.
Do you raise those same concerns about eliminating jobs when it comes to your signature issue of reducing money in politics? There are going to be a lot of lobbyists out of work. What about GND - fossil fuel industry employs a lot of people.
The fact is that all of those people, their wages, their benefits, and the dividends of the shareholders who effectively write their paychecks are all paid by sick people trying to get healthcare. It IS immoral, and if youâre a smart person who is cool with a trillion dollar industry existing for the sole purpose of rent seeking from sick people, I donât really see an option C beyond the two possibilities you gave.
Think of all the corrections officers who will lose their jobs if we take on the prison industrial complex!
Will someone think of the oncologists?
Sounds like strong social safety nets would help those affected.
And you would put all those bootstrap makers out of work? I canât even look at you right now.
