Tulsi is on Fox News constantly talking about how Trump hasn’t done anything impeachable. She’s literally running as gop base voters idea of a good Democrat.
and how does that take votes from Trump?
Maybe all this nonsense is simple–she’s trying to be his VP.
There are going to be a lot of conservatives who aren’t huge trump fans but would literally never vote for Warren in 2020. They probably would have just stayed home without tulsi and will almost certainly vote for the gop down ballot so definitely not a good thing.
they’re still pulling that lever anyway and they aint staying home
They did last time they will next time, nothing ever changes.
Tulsi has zero actual supporters. They are just Republicans propping her up. I have literally never heard a person who didn’t vote for Trump in 2016 believe that Tulsi is a legitimate candidate. I don’t follow RWNJ communities but knew something was up a few months ago when the few Trump supporters I know irl started talking up Tulsi and how she is such an obvious choice for Dems. Her candidacy is a coordinated right wing effort that may or may not also be propped up by Russia.
Yeah, that was like legit LOL funny. The primary is now between someone who’s not running and someone polling at like 2%. Someone go tel Liz, Bernie and Joe that they’re out of it.
They should have a race for the undercard title, Tulsi might win that.
Am I allowed to hate both Tulsi and Hillary and wish they’d both go away forever?
That’s my exact position
Tanden too.
No way it took you this long to figure out.
By showing how shit democracy is in the developed world, the Russian government demotivates its people from craving that democracy and thus solidifies its power over its people.
Any favors it gets from its leaders is a much appreciated extra.
Nice summary of Tulsi’s history:
Makes a few good points:
a) she supported interventionist policies through 2014, including pro-Kurdish and Ukraine ones
b) starting 2015, she wasn’t an isolationist as she claims, rather she took the Assad/Russia positions on ~every issue (which began before her bizzare visit to Damascus)
c) she was on the path to being a political superstar before this heel turn. So though the heel turn has gotten her strong support in her little niche, it wasn’t a political opportunist calculation
Maybe it’s nothing more than Tulsi started reading Russia Today in 2015 and thought they made good points.
If there is any justice in the world, after Warren wins it’ll be the end of Pete’s political career. A poster boy for the kind of politicians that need to go extinct.
There are lots of others but he’s young enough and high profile enough to do real damage if he isn’t stopped.
Interesting - I knew she was on a path to political stardom, and I knew her current positions so I was wondering how she got on that path with them… Like there’s a reason she was vice chair of the party or whatever, she was a strong contender to be a presidential candidate from like now through 2032.
I don’t know if I’d go that far. I guess he’s sort of like the sword that can cut both ways. On the one hand he’s extremely talented, and if you made a list of the most talented Dem politicians under 40 he’d have to be in the top 5 - maybe second only to AOC. So I don’t know if I want to see someone that talented go away.
On the other hand, what good is capitalizing on that talent electorally if it means he’s going to screw us on major issues. If he’d sell out on healthcare, what else would he sell out on?
Back on the other hand, make a list of Democratic politicians who have a non-zero chance at winning an Indiana senate seat in the next decade. How many people are on it? Two? Three?
I would put Joe Donnelly on it just because he held the seat so recently, although I have my doubts as to whether he could do it again… and Pete. I guess Evan Bayh if the political landscape shifts enough, which it’ll have to do to some extent for any of those three to have any shot in the next decade.
And all that said, someone like Pete >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> someone like Joe Manchin.
I could easily argue either side of this one.
I thought Pete was fine before and think he’s fine now. If he wants to be a big shot he can run for governor like Clinton and Carter.
His youth is the reason I want him gone. Gotta make an example so that the next round of talented young politico’s embrace the new small donor approach to politics. He’s a ‘sacrifice’ I’m comfortable making.
Look he’s got a high IQ and had a bright future in the Democratic Party. The fact that he was willing to sell out so completely so quickly is a major indication that he’s got no character at all. We need to expel every no character politician from the party with maximum velocity. Him being talented is unfortunately a significant reason to get rid of him. We don’t need any more talented assholes. You know who else is talented? Mitch McConnell.
Joe Manchin sucks a lot. I obviously want him gone too. As to an Indiana senate seat… The ship has sailed on me being willing to compromise the character and message of the party for individual political positions with less weight than the presidency or a SCOTUS seat. I’m not saying I won’t make compromises, but the party needs to start thinking like a brand and standing for something. Being corporate shills is what we need to get as far away from as possible. It’s the antithesis of what the party should be about.
As for Pete I’m not remotely worried about his future. There are lots of non political jobs he can do, and if he wants he could easily do a heel turn and become a Republican. I’d say I wish him the best but that would be disingenuous and hypocritical.
EDIT: To be clear I think the future of politics is small donor donations + winning favorable media coverage. Big donor money with strings attached has no place in this vision, and is what we’re supposed to be using as a foil. The latter option needs to become incredibly radioactive in Democratic Primaries ASAP. I’m in favor of passing stuff like Yang’s democracy dollars or Warrens government small donor match program to stack the deck against big donor fundraising. Also I’m obviously in favor of putting in laws that hamstring PAC’s as much as possible, starting with ending any favorable tax treatment and making disclosure of all their donors mandatory. If there’s one thing I hate it’s anonymous political speech.
