When Mamdani Does Something Right

what do you accept as pressure?

Whatever forces her to quit.

The biggest problem with the ACA is that it’s an immense giveaway to the insurance companies. It’s not that you must pay for health care, it’s that you must pay for health insurance.

Of course Obama couldn’t make RBG quit. Sad to see people making Trolly right.

No one has said he could MAKE her. People are correctly pointing out he could have done more to pressure her into quitting though. Trolly is only right because he is mostly strawmanning and arguing against something no one really meant.

You’re usually only campaigning to the left of you start from the center.

United Healthcare just announced they made 6.48 billion dollars last quarter.

Profit or gross? Must the all the antivaxxers.

Profit. They had revenues of like 111 billion.

Sounds like health insurance is at least $6.3 billion too profitable per quarter. At least.

And who knows what he did. He could have publicly campaigned for her to quit, but that would have been bad…and wrong imo.

My sense is that RBG cared about her reputation and legacy above all. Had Obama started to put those at risk, I think there would have been a good chance she resigned. Of course, she could have said no, and then there would be nothing he could do (absent pulling a Pelican Brief), but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have tried.

We have no idea what he tried to do, what discussions were held. We also have no evidence that she cared about her legacy more than she cared about being on the court.

At best, Obama could have called for her to resign publicly, which burns up political capital and probably would have accomplished nothing.

It’s an odd reason to be mad at Obama. Were Bernie Sanders and AOC pounding the table and demanding a resignation from RBG? Did they just not care about abortion rights?

Nobody thought Trump was going to win, not even Trump.

There was a picture of him being horrified from 2016…can’t find it…maybe it’s been scrubbed.

Obama should have asked Hillary not to run. And he shouldn’t have appointed her SoS.

It’s not about being mad at Obama, it’s just indicative of Dems constantly playing by norms while Republicans don’t. In this case, it’s cost the Dems any chance of winning back SCOTUS for an entire generation (if not longer).

Obama first asked early in his second term. Trump wasn’t even a thing at that point.

With her health as it was and the chance of whomever GOP put out there shipping '16, she really should have stepped down. She was a selfish piece of shit not to.

Agree that Obama couldn’t really force it without doing something blatantly illegal. I’m definitely not mad at Obama for this. I’m mad at her.
