I love this shot. Looking at the difference between Sr. and Jr.’s reactions is hilarious.
From noted bastion of liberality, Politico:
After Donald Trump wrapped up his first speech to Congress and worked his way through the crowd, he lingered on his handshake with Anthony Kennedy, the 80-year-old Supreme Court justice.
The boom mics picked up their seemingly private conversation.
“Say hello to your boy,” Trump said, “Special guy.” “Your kids have been very nice to him,” Kennedy replied. “Well,” Trump said, “they love him, and they love him in New York.”
…the president and his team are obsessed with the next possible vacancy.
The likeliest candidate is Kennedy, who has sat at the decisive fulcrum of the most important Supreme Court cases for more than a decade. Replacing him with a reliable conservative would tip the court to the right, even if no other seat comes open under Trump — whose team has taken to exploring every imaginable line of communication to keep tabs on the justice and to make him comfortable as he ponders a potential retirement.
One back channel is the fact that Kennedy’s son, Justin, knows Donald Trump Jr. through New York real estate circles. Another is through Kennedy’s other son, Gregory, and Trump’s Silicon Valley adviser Peter Thiel. They went to Stanford Law School together and served as president of the Federalist Society in back-to-back years, according to school records. More recently, Kennedy’s firm, Disruptive Technology Advisers, has worked with Thiel’s company Palantir Technologies.
You guys are hilarious conspiracy theorists with everything else, but because media ‘investigations’ cleared Trump of ‘blackmail’ allegations in, checks notes, July 2018, you take it as fact. He uses mob language with Kennedy that’s in the vein of ‘I need you to do me a favor, though’. Based on the last 8 years, I’m gonna take a wild guess no one would think he didn’t blackmail him today if it happened similarly. There is no such thing as coincidence.
Eh. They can still Luigi their way out of it.
This is the easiest trolley problem ever. Dozens of women have died and hundreds and thousands more will die because RBG didn’t resign. He should have done anything to make it happen. Juat about anything.
It might have required a credible threat of physical harm.
Get Seal Team 6 to shoot her in the head?
I suppose that’s an official act. Although I’m certain circa 2013 they would have viewed that sort of thing very differently.
I mean this seriously. The consequences of RBG are worse than one old woman being blackmailed or locked in the white house basement.
I also think i see things different than a lot here. Fuck norms. Just do the good things and worry about “right and wrong” later.
Seal team 6 shooting her in the head would have saved hundreds of lives. Nearly dead RBG stroking her own ego like the ghoul she was is more valuable to you?
Seriously what in the fuck.
I also mean this seriously. You probably have to go beyond just breaking norms and actually propose breaking laws to remove her.
I guess I haven’t gone full NBZ yet. I can understand where you’re coming from though.
I’d be good with a lot, but that’s a bridge too far for me. And I hate RBG (at least I do now; I didn’t then).
I think he’s there.
Im more rolling my eyes at the idea of “what more could Obama do than ask”. There are like 2000 steps between politely asking over a 3 star Michelin dinner and seal team 6.
Would seal team 6 option be better than what we got? To me yes. Assuming it wasn’t publically known.
RBG is one of the great villains of this century as is Obama. And those things are at least partially related.
Blame Clinton for not nominating a man who would have known his role.
Or it could have had an impact like the assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand.
So Trump saying “I like your son” is definitive proof of some nefarious blackmail plot of a guy who had more or less gone full MAGA and basically made them pinky swear to pick Rapenaugh to replace him, but Ds voting to nuke the filibuster for judges when they had vacancies they couldn’t fill because of Republican intransigence is not evidence they would do the same with a SCOTUS vacancy? Even adjusted for you being in your feelings in fantasy land that’s some weak sauce lol.
Breyer also held on for way longer than he should have, he just ran good on not dying during Trump 1.
Really, if someone were going to take care of RBG, it would have been best for the country if it were just some random like any of us.
RBG ran bad and was only a few months from surviving into Biden.
I mean, Breyer should be raked over the coals too. but RBG was especially egregious given her cancer situation. I really hope there’s an afterlife so she can watch as the Notorious ACB undoes what she perceives as her legacy, but we’re probably not that fortunate.
Biden maybe loses if RBG is still stumbling around in November 2020. The whole “stolen(lol)” seat helped Biden bigly in the election.
