They been getting pressure from top down to make a lot more arrests. They are just bennyhilling around chasing brown people it seems.

I’m pretty sure part of the strategy is to do stuff that’s outrageous and cruel to create headlines and scare other immigrants into leaving/not coming in the first place.

I could be wrong but I think that’s a -EV strategy for Trump. He’s just too stupid to fully understand and Miller et al. are too rabidly hateful to care. Whenever the focus on immigration and the obvious cruelty goes up, he loses support.

There is, however, a threshold where he has sufficient power and control that broad support doesn’t matter anymore. I think we’ll know more where we’re at relative to the tipping point this weekend with the protest rallies going on at the same time as his fascist birthday parade. For now I think he’s making a mistake going up against LA and California this way, drawing attention to what is/will be an unpopular policy when people who would rather remain ignorant are forced to see what is happening.

He’s already POTUS.

It’s not enough until the courts stop getting in his way, the blue state governors kiss his ass, the army starts shooting people, and the protestors stop showing up. POTUS wanna be king.

I think it’s a mistake to think Trump is operating on good info at any time. By all accounts he has surrounded himself with true believers, people that see him as some kind of religious figure, and sycophants. Who knows how this shit is getting described to him. I don’t think there is any kind of fallout from this type of stuff that would ever penetrate his thinking. Financial/bond markets, yes. The plight of brown peasants and whiny liberals? No.

I don’t know that persecuting people is going to impede that.

Maybe.

But, he’s definitely not going to become king by obeying the law.

For sure. It’s easy to hear what you want and have everything reinforce your reactionary ideas about protest and end up spouting love it or leave it like a fascist.

He should have picked a blue city in a red state. Like Memphis or Dallas. See how that goes before going after a city like LA.

This all plays out for him ok on social media maybe, but LA is overwhelmingly anti-ICE. I imagine Dallas would show some opposition to the protests. Maybe not Austin though. Travis county is more blue than Los Angeles county.

I don’t know how he measures fallout. There is feedback though, and he has an awareness of where he is relative to real danger. He’s stupid enough to get close to the edge but so far he hasn’t gone over it. I’m hoping he screws up sooner rather than later.

Maybe not but he follows his polling closely. He’ll pull back if he senses too much heat. It feels to me he’s biding his time, testing responses, holding back until he can really grab us by the throat. Our only hope is he misjudges that moment, which he may have just done.

He’s gone considerably farther than he did in his previous term.

If I were him I wouldn’t pick LA. I think he may have gotten his hand caught in the cookie jar, which is why he’s hesitating to call it an insurrection.

Definitely. He’s bolder. More confident, more determined. Not smarter, but there is a plan. Well, maybe not a plan exactly, but the goal is clear and there’s a visible path to get to it.
